Lost my two yorkie pals within 6 weeks Until August, I had two wonderful Yorkies, Angel and Jasper. They had been with us for 11 and 12 years respectively, and were great friends of each other and of my husband and I. As you all know, Yorkies are incredible creatures full of love and personality. To me, they are the ultimate of dog friends. When I first began looking at this site, it was because my Jasper was ill, and that is why I logged on as "Jaspermom". I wanted to see if there was any good advice about what he was going through at the time. Mostly I firmly believed it was grief that he suffered from. Six weeks earlier Jasper's best friend and life companion Angel had been accidentally killed by my brother's dog who was really just trying to peel her off his face, and ended up breaking her fragile little neck. They were getting along soooo well. It only took a second. My poor brother suffered greatly from this, and I do not think he will ever forgive his dog, or himself. It was a very difficult time. Jasper was 12 at the time of Angel's death, and for the past three years has not been at all healthy. We knew he did not have that long, due to his multiple illnesses, and had been thinking it for awhile. We never expected that Angel would go before Jasper. Her death hit Jasper hard, and he never recovered. Six weeks later he waited until we were out, and passed away quietly. I miss them both so much. Their deaths were too close to each other. There was no time to get used to Angel being gone, and then Jasper was gone too... When Angel died, I swore no more dogs. I couldn't take the pain of losing them. But after Jasper passed away, I couldn't take the emptiness either, of the house or of my heart. Less than a week later I asked my husband if he wanted another Yorkie, and he told me he was just waiting for me to ask. So now we have Wosie. At 3 1/2 months, she is a lot more of a challenge than I ever remember my other two being, but she is also the light of my life. I adore her and am determined she become the sweet, loving, and well behaved wonder-Yorkie her two predecessors were. Wish me luck! Thanks for letting me tell my Yorkie story. I feel so much better telling, even though there are tears in my eyes while I type. Dang, it's still hard... |
Sorry My dog passed in Jan. and I still miss her everyday. Time does make things better. It is funny how weird things remind you of them and the great times you had together. Have fun will the baby. Tauni |
*hugs* i cant even imagine your pain... your in my thoughts and prayers.. *hugs* |
What a wonderful, well told story,, even though it brought tears to my eyes, I can't even imagine your heartache. I could just tell by the love in your writing, by the end of the thread there would be a new Yorkie in your life. ;) Im so sorry for your 2,, too close loses. |

Tauni, my heart is just aching for your loss. I am so terribly sorry. I lost my Yorkie while I was on vacation back in May (he escaped from our home and was picked up by someone that didn't return him) and my entire summer was one big haze. We just got our new Yorkie, Jagger, right after Labor Day and I have to say, my heart is just healing beautifully. But, there are times when I am still melancholy for Coty. Getting the new puppy was just what God ordered! Even my 14.5 yr. old Yorkie-Poo Tyson has been renewed by this new addition. I am glad that you got Wosie! She will light up your life. God bless you. |
So sorry for your loss, but in my opinion you did the right thing by getting another to share your love. You will never replace the ones that are gone, but everyone has enough love for much more than 2. I have lost several over the years and I know for me it is best to get another immediately. I once had to have one put to sleep, and when I got out into the car my new puppy got in my lap and kissed my tears away. She knew how sad I was. Your new puppy will never take the place of the others, but she will make a place of her own. |
What a sad story. I am so sorry for your loss. I had a golden named Kimba that my husband bought me when we were dating. She got cancer in 1995, when she was 13 years old and we had to put her asleep. It was horrible. Kimba was our first child. We still talk about her all of the time. I knew I had to get another golden especially because I was pregnant with my third child. I didn't want to deprive the kids of having a pet. Well, Sammy got cancer when she was only 5 years old and passed away. That was all I could take. We haven't had another dog since. Flash forward to Feb. 2005 on my 40th Birthday. I got my first little dog- a yorkie named Roxy Girl! My family and I couldn't be happier with our only little girl (she has 3 human brothers) The only problem is she started having seizures last night. She just had her 5th one at 7:00pm tonight. I wrote all about it in the "sick pet forum" Good luck to you with your new baby. Say a prayer for my Roxy. Roxy's Mom, Maria |

I lost my two Yorkies in February. Like you, I never expected Gracie to go before Scruffy. She was young and healthy and Scruffy was old with multiple health problems. I feel your pain. Even though we have new babies to love, they can't replace the ones we lost. God bless you and I hope you get better soon. |
I can't imagine how hard to would be to loose 2 in such a short time. I'm glad you got another little one to fill you're life. I know from experience it helps. |
I don't know what to say except I'm very very sorry for your losses...that has to be so emotional devestating that I was glad to read you do have a puppy to keep your mind off your tragedies...I'm very sorry. BIG hugs to you and I hope you continue to enjoy your new baby while always loving the 2 you're missing..... |
Your story made me cry but I am happy that you have Wosie and that Jasper and Angel were so well loved for their entire lives. There sounded like such wonderful family members. Did you find the crown clip? |
I have not read any of the other posts to you but I am so sorry. I am going through the same thing you are. I lost my darling girl yorkie this summer. She was 15. I had just gotten a little baby yorkie about a month before. We also have a 2 year old chihuahua. Both the yorkies were out on a sandbar on the river where we were putting the dogs in a pool of river water on the sandbar so they could swim. Both the yorkies took on a little wave action and drank some water. Within a few days Mari, the baby only 4 mos old at the time and 1.5 lbs woke up just limp. By the time I got her to the vet within an hour she was near dead. They had her on fluids and other things over night and sure enough in that night my Ginger got ill too. By morning, and getting her to the vet he got her hydrated, and the puppy was doing better, I brought them back home. What had happened, the pond was too stagnet and they got Geardia!!! By mid afternoon Ginger had died. Her poor little body couldn't make it. Of course this was a Saturday. I held her in my arms for a few hours until she went. This was in August. To loose yours to another dog that you love has to be very hard. This really has me thinking. My chihuahua, he is a giant. He weighs 13 lbs. He is a cutie a long hair buff color with light brown eyes, nose and mouth. He almost looks albino. However, when he plays with Mari he scares me. They play pretty hard and he is so much bigger than she is. After reading your post I think I need to keep them settled down a lot more. |
I'm really sorry for you. I couldn't imagine losing two. I just lost my puppy (11 days old) this week - and it was the hardest thing to do. Can't imagine losing him any later in life. I'm really sorry and I wish I could give u a hug. I will pray for you. But in time little Wosie will grow and fill a part of that hole in your heart. I'm sorry for your lose and let us know if we can help in anyway. Katie |
Thank you, everyone! My heartfelt thanks goes out to all of you for your sympathy and your kindness. It has indeed been a difficult time, but my Wosie has made it easier to deal with. She is a bundle of energy and joyfulness! She keeps me very busy all the time, lol. To all of those who replied that have also lost furry friends, my sympathies to you as well. I am sorry for your losses, and wish I was there to hug you in return for all the virtual hugs you have sent me. It just goes to show that we should always treat every day as though it were our last, and hold all we love dear. That includes human loved ones as well. Thanks again, all you wonderful people! And Kim, thanks for the crown clip info, I appreciate it! Wosie is my little princess, and deserves a coronation! |
