It is so very hard to lose one of our furbabies.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am SO very sorry, Lou. They are SO hard to let go of, but it is just as hard -- if not more- to watch them suffer.

You were just as loyal and faithful of a companion. May you soon find peace to deal with your loss. BIG hugs.

Lou: I truly think you are amazing and admire you for your strength. Even though you may not feel strong - you are; because, "You took on the pain so that Ivan didn't have to anymore". You should feel better knowing: 1) you did the absolute best and selfless thing for your dog; 2) you went in there with him and that takes enormous courage and 3) Most importantly, he's in Heaven and he's happy, running and playing with all those who have gone before him. Bless your heart. Prayers on your healing. PS - I too am having to make this decision soon and my heart truly goes out to you.

This is so true. The day I posted in this thread to comfort Lou, who has a special place in my heart, she PMd *me* for an update on Wylie's Cushing's disease. That's just the kind of human being she is....lovely, lovely, lovely. She is truly so caring.

Here is a photo of Ivan and my grandson that I dearly love. It shows Ivan's personality. He was really enjoying the hug and had to check out Mom to see if she was enjoying it too.

You and your family have suffered heartbreaking loss, I am so sorry. I hope the pain has eased a bit, and also know it will never go away.
