missing Lacey **need help!!** Hi everyone , Lacey has been gone for five day now. The breeder that I got lacey from came to bring me my money back and surprised me with $500 and a new puppy, half yorkie and half schnauzer. She very cute. She is ALOT bigger then Lacey but I feel like I'm betraying Lacey. I'm scared that this puppy will die too. She seems like she's alot healthier then Lacey. She's alot bigger and running all over the place. I have alot of mixed feelings on what I should do. I'm wondering if I'm going to love Rachel like I loved Lacey. Is it too soon for me to have another dog??? I need help figuring out if I made the right choice. |
In my opinion, you are not betraying Lacey. You will always love her and she will always be in your heart. But now you are helping Rachel have a wonderful life. We lost our Yorkie girl back in January but she was a senior with health issues at the time. We have adopted a 5 month old YorkiePoo. We miss our little girl every day but know that we are giving Teddy a happy home. You would be doing the same for Rachel. |
First off, I'm sending you a big hug...You certainly aren't betraying Lacey by loving another puppy. Rachel will never replace Lacey, nor should she. Lacey will always have a special place in your heart. Only you can decide whether you are ready for another pup, but give her a chance. I'll bet you'll grow to love her. Just don't be afraid to love again. |
I am sorry for your loss of Lacey. I know how you are feeling. Last year I got Dixie and after 5 weeks we found out she had congenital kidney failure and did not make it. The breeder felt terrible as she had no idea and she said when I was ready we would talk about another one. A couple of weeks after Dixie passed she called to see how I was doing and said she had a little male that was like Dixie if I was interested. I did not want a male but she said she had a female but she was going to be bigger than Dixie. I said I didn't care as long as she was within standard, so I went to look at Roxie and she gave me money towards Dixie's vet bills and Roxie. At first I felt like I was not ready for her but she wormed her way into my heart in a very short time. Just give yourself some time to warm up to her. |
You can never replace your other baby, and you should not want to. Lacy would want you to be a fur mom. I don't think you would be betraying her at all. It will help fill the void to have a new baby to love. I lost my cat of 17 years one week before I was scheduled to pick up a new kitten (I had that negotiated long before I new my old cat was sick.) I went through some guilt feelings and had a very hard time dealing with that loss. I hung out at the support group at rainbowsbridge.com for that entire week, not sure of what to do. I went ahead and accepted the new kitty, with an understanding breeder who would be happy to have him if I could not keep him for any reason. He is the sweetest boy. My old cat still has a huge place in my heart, but so does my new little one! I'm so sorry for your loss, but happy you have the opportunity to love again so soon. |
I think the new furbaby will bring you healing laughter and joy. For us, it's been 2 years exactly since we lost Brutus; I got Maxwell within the month of our loss; we STILL call him "Brutus" a lot by mistake, but he makes us remember Brutus and enjoy him and his very different looks and personality. He has giving us so many reasons to laugh and enjoy his antics, while we still remember so very fondly of Brutus. Wishing you comfort in this sad time and joy in this happy time. |
Everyone grieves differently. Some people need to get another dog quickly, some need to go through the grief process for months or even years before they can open their heart up to another dog. If you aren't given enough time to grieve for Lacey, you may not be able to bond with this puppy. Only you know what is best for you. If you feel it's too soon, please don't feel pressured to take this new puppy. |
Thank you so much, you guys are helping me so much. the heart everyone has on here are so awesome I'm so glad that I had a chance to talk to all of you. The puppys eye is draining something would anyone know what it could be? it looks like when our children have pink eye. |
