To the OP - I'm sorry this happened and that you had to make this decision. You don't need to hear my personal opinions or what ifs or what you could have done -- I hope you're able to heal from this and that your little furbaby is in a better place. |
I just went back and read some of the responses to the OP. Chances are he wont be coming back to see support. Why would he when he was told he was looking for pity. So terrible he was made to feel worse than he already does. Very shameful people. |

i think the saddest thing about this is that it was a financial decision...i mean, it's just really sad. i am not criticizing anyone's opinion or whatever, but the situation just made me sad. i mean, if someone is responsible for your life, and they had to make the decision to let you go, because saving you would be too expensive? :( |
I am one with three children and a husband. I love my puppy as much as anyone...but what if I spent thousands on my puppy, then God forbid, something happened to one of my family members or my husband and he was unable to work or even worse. how guilty would i feel for spending the money on a pet |
Sorry to hear about the incident that happened to Spanky....... |
Folks - Most of you have been so understanding of my situation & I am thankful for that. Some of you have been pushing me closer to the edge of the cliff with your remarks that insinuates that I am a selfish person. i am not...trust me! Timing When Spanky got hit by the car it was around 5:15pm EST. I then met my uncle at the VET at 6:00pm. VET took xrays for a whopping $400 bucks. Everyone they recommended for the proposed surgery was gone for the day/wkend. We had no choice but to go the city to expedite this situation at hand. We left Brooklyn @ 6:45pm & arrived in Manhattan @7:15pm. Doctors examined the xrays from brooklyn & said it was pretty bad & that the right hip bone can possibly shift into one of his organs causing more damage. The bone would shift because Spanky wanted to walk so bad & he doest know better. (tears falling now) I been always there to protect my little man. Even those times I got attacked by other animals for him. Once we visited a friend with a cat (normally other cats just run away or find Spanky to be a very friendly animal). The cat tried to attack Spanky, so retract the leash pulling him to my chest. The cat jumps towards us while hover over Spanky, while receiving multiple stratches to my head, arm & stomach. Same thing happened with some pitt bulls, but they never bite him if I lift him high. My fiance & I am coping with this very hard issue. I've even called around asking many for there opinions on what to do, prior to making my decision. All would agree that it was time let go. We're hoping the breeder we bought Spanky from has another little fellow available this weekend. It's so hard not having him around. We're sleeping in the bed & place his favorite toys on the spot where he used to sleep. We have even found the proper insurance which would cover surgery like these. In addition, I will always be a member on this forum regardless of those who call me selfish. At the end of the day when I pay 2500 to surrender Spanky & i'm laid off the next day, who am I going to turn to for help? I told you guys this economy is shaky & turning to your credit card as one person mentioned, is not a wise decision. That is why most of us are in so much debt, cause we rely on credit cards. |

I'm sorry for your loss of Spanky |
Diddy, I"m so sorry you were berated here for your decision. I pm'd you. TO the ones doing the berating: Until you walk a mile in another's shoes, then you cannot possibly know what they are going through. I, for one, am ashamed at all of you for making this man's pain all that much worse, by looking down your noses at him for letting this poor, injured, IN SEVERE PAIN baby go. How dare you?!?! Often times, things are typed on a forum without any regard to the HUMAN BEING at the receiving end. As far as rescues go, while they do good work, and most of the time are making things better for an animal, sometimes they waste resources on an animal that is only going to be in pain and suffer for the rest of it's life. Crushed hips, to me, sound like a lifetime of agony, no matter how many surgeries and drugs are utilized to keep the animal going. I would never want one of my babies to go through all that, and the OP is NOT selfish for not wanting his baby to suffer forever, either. Really, we all need to think, before putting fingers to keyboard, on whether what we want to say REALLY matters, if it's going to help someone. This poor baby is already gone, so why jump all over this poor man when his heart is broken:unlove:? Seriously! |
