I am very sorry for yr loss. RIP sweet Spanky!:littleang:rbyorkie: |
Wow I understand why you didnt have the money to get the surgery but I cant understand why you didnt turn him over to a rescue. Thats what i would have done. Your reason for not doing it is very selfish. RIP Spanky |

You found Yorkie Talk ~ So you could have found a Yorkie Rescue to take him in...Heck, you could have simply left him at the hospital and believe me, he would have gotten surgery and gotten into a rescue program and then onto a happy home... And the pity part...Yeah you did ask for pity, you came here posting your story in RIP section. Rest in Peace Spanky |

To the OP, this makes me so sad, I hope you rethink your attitude should you ever decide to get another pet. If you can't properly care for them due to finances or time constraints, re-homing must always be considered. While nobody should ever take this lightly, you should always love your pet enough to consider this. I agree with the others, the vet would not have offered this suggestion, if the quality of life would have been poor, and your dog was still very young so he had a good chance of recovery. I realize this situation is done and over, but please reconsider this, and know in order to really love something else; you have to step outside your own needs. I am really sorry for your loss, I'm just asking that you to consider this. |

The very first sentence here. The second and third sentences here. I love my dogs more than I like most people but there comes a point when you have to consider your own personal wellbeing. I, like these fine people, don't have a lot of money either. $7,000 would be well beyond what I could afford in vet fees. |

You took the words right out of my mouth. May God bless Spanky. |

Nobody is upset about her not paying $7000 for the surgery. What we are upset about is that she could have turned the dog over to the rescue organization who would have PAID for it and then would have found him a new home. His life could have been saved, that is why everyone is upset. Obviously what is done is done, we just all feel sad for Spanky. |
Ummm guys take a look at the post count and think before you get too riled up. Don't get yourself in trouble. If this poster is for real then you made a very selfish choice. If spanky were eligible for surgery then he had a good chance. You thought only of yourself. I mean come on how much could you have loved him if you chose to see him dead over being helped and rehomed to a family that would be able to care for his needs. |

It does not say the OP was responsible for any fees....they would only have to relinquish ownership of the dog. Their perference to that option was having the animal put down. |
Are you people reading my post correctly? The VET wanted to charge me $2,500 to keep Spanky there for the night & hand him off to the rescue organization in the morning. I love Spanky in every way possible. I cooked for him everyday & didnt feed him dog food. We played countless hours together with his favorite toys & went on extremely long walks in prospect park. Spanky received nothing but the best from me. So please do not question my ability to take care of my dog. God rest his soul. Also, when your paying off for a school loan & watching your money go to flames in the market, you've got to face reality & say to yourself "I can't afford to do this". Some of you need a serious reality check & I hate the fact that i'm explaining myslef to people i dont even know. Peace out |

"Well the VET offered to keep him there for the night for an outrageous fee. In return, I would have to turn him over to some organization that would attend to his physical needs & I lose him to some family that would adopt him. Quite frankly, I'd rather lose him to Heaven than to have him in someone's possession knowing that I failed to commit to my puppy." I know not everyone has $7000 to spend, but they were given the choice to surrender him - So obviously the Doctor knew that given the opportunity this pup should have and could have been saved!!!! The bottom line is that they wrote that #1 They didn't want to have to pay any money towards vet care if #2 They would have to surrender him. I know that alot of Vets suggest PTS and they go along with it in more cases than we want to even think about....So when it was written that the Vet suggested to surrender, that tells us all that this pup actually was healthy and young and he should have and could have had the opportunity to live a life he deserved...but they owners were too selfish, they would rather live with the thoughts of him being in heaven verse being loved and cared for by another family - THAT'S WHY WE ARE ALL UPSET :( |
oh it will jeri, what goes around comes around eventually |
