Not a Happy July 4th
 
:tinyheart:littleangI know I haven't been here in a while I'm moving and I've been working in the aparment for months now. I hate to come "back" with sad news but...sad news it is. My daughter and son in law had to put they're 11 year old lab mix Bob down on Thursday. They're soooooooo upset, and so am I. Bob was a great dog, no one could walk by without stopping to pet or play with him. He developed a brain tumor and had 2 seizures Mother's Day weekend. My daughter and I had taken him to a Doggie Neurologist about 2 weeks ago. They put him on prednisone which helped temporarily, Bob was even able to take a nap on the couch, unfortunately it was short lived :-(. She gave my daughter some good advice when my daughter asked how do I know "when", she said: make a list of his 5 most favorite things (e.g. eating, playing with a particular toy, going for a walk) and when he can't do any or all, it's time. Bob had a bad seizure on Tuesday and it was just downhill from there. He didn't want his bully stick (which is his most favorite thing in the world) he wouldn't really eat, the couch was out of the question, he could barely stand or walk. They knew it was time.

I must say their vet was wonderful, when they got there they asked if they would prefer it to be done on the table or on the floor, Bob hated the table so they opted for the floor. They laid a blanket on the floor and my daughter and son in law were able to sit with him and pet him. Afterwards the vet techs made a clay paw print and put Bob's name with hearts around it and the date. I thought it was so caring how the vets office handled such a sad, sad event. :dogprints:Pawprint::rip::cry8::rainbow::sad:

Oh my. I am so sorry to hear this. This is something that we all dread. Hope they are ok. As we know this is very, very difficult. So sad. Prayers for you all!:lovewings

Ah, I am so sorry for your famly! Sounds like Bob was a special guy!
It did sound like the vet gave really good advice- and were very caring.

thank you all for your kind words and prayers...it's hard when you know in your heart he's in a better place...not in pain...and running and playing with all his doggie and kitty and hamster and bird friends again...but you still miss him so much...

That is so sad. My condolences go out to you, your daughter and sil. They made the right decision for Bob, he is not suffering now.

I am so sorry for their loss. I went through the same thing with my dachshund Sammy in 2001. She developed a brain tumor and had seizures. She was only 5 years old though. It is such a horrible feeling being so helpless. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

im so sorry for your loss! Im grateful that Bob had his family (pack) there to see him to the other side, and was surrounded by love--thats the best way to go.

There are some really great vets out there. My mother in law had a 21 year old cat that had to be euthanized (she seized also, then went downhill fast). she couldnt afford to bury her or anything, so they cremated Miss Kitty, put her pawprint and a swatch of fur and pic of her in a frame, and gave a little wooden box with her name engraved on it.. it meant the world to my mother in law.. they didnt charge a dime for the euthanization or anything else..

I am so sorry to read of your sad loss. I've been through this myself twice with dogs, the first time when I was eight months pregnant and the second time in less than a week after I'd had a stroke myself.

It does sometimes happen that a dog just can't go on living any more, for a number of reasons, and in these cases the best and kindest thing you can do for him/her is to take him/her to the vet for the very last time and - if the dog means anything to you at all - to stay with your dog while the final injection is administered.

Staying with your dog at the very end is the last and greatest thing you can do for him, I reckon; when he goes to Heaven the last memory he will have of life on this earth is of you, his beloved owner, by his side as always.

So sorry to hear about Bob. I have a 12 yr old and it is so hard to watch them get old. Hope you all find peace.

I just want to thank you all for your kindness and good wishes....and on a happy note to a sad story.....last week my daughter and son in law adopted Jack "MOOSE" from a no kill shelter.....he's a lab mix but he looks like a Heinz 57 variety...I think he looks like a spaniel.....he's got a hint of beagle ESPECIALLY his bark.....he's just adorable.....and so smart for 12 weeks old.....and we're so happy to welcome him to the family.....of course we call him BOB half the time....Brandi hasn't met her new buddy yet as he has kennel cough and a parasite problem.....but we got him lots of toys to play with till the day he can play with Brandi....
