Help Lost Yorkie In Des Moines, Iowa Suburb Samie - a 4 yr old female yorkie has been missing for 3 days in Urbandale, Iowa a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa. Last seen at her home near Urbandale High School. $1,000 Reward. If found call Connie at 515-278-0624 or 515-537-0545. She may have been stolen!! She also may be sick. She had been to the vet 2 days earlier & was on medication. Please, if you have any friends or family in the Des Moines area, please help us get the word out. I just met Samie's owner and she is desperate to have her back. Samie has a furbaby sister, Taylor, also a beautiful yorkie. Today, I was out hanging up fliers about the Yorkie Meetup that Suzy & are planning. When I went into a grocery store to hang up a flier on a bullentin board, I saw the most beautiful little yorkie looking back at me - saying Lost. I called the number and talked with Connie. I told her about Yorkietalk & that I wanted to help her find Samie. She does not use a computer, so I am posting this information for her. I printed out the sticky thread about finding a lost dog - and drove to her house at 9 pm to take the information to her - I told her I wasn't a nut This is what I know. The dogs have a dog door they can go in & out, even when Connie is gone. Connie had gone out of town for a few days, & a neighbor was checking in on the dogs. The neighbor came over & found Samie was missing. Connie is afraid she may have been stolen. She lives in a quite suburb, even on a street that dead ends. The part of the suburb she lives has houses about 35 yrs old, but all well cared for. But it seems that she has an interesting situation going on next door. I don't mean to offend anyone - but she suspects if the dog was stolen it was the neighbors. It seems that a Mexican couple bought the house & lived there a short time & after they moved out, a series of other Mexicans have moved into the house - they each stay about 3 mths then move on. Connie thinks this house is some type of halfway point for these folks & that they're illegals coming into the country. She has never told the police, never done anything, because she says she has mixed feelings about these people, because she wouldn't want to live in poverty like so many in Mexico. The man who lives in the house now does not speak English, she handed him a note today (in English) that basically said, if you know who has my dog. I want her back, no questions asked & I'll give them $1,000. Please pray for Samie, it is hardly likely that this dog would have climbed a chain link fence - she possibly had a hurt back, that's why she had been on meds. Samie had been to the vet because she wasn't feeling well, but the vet was having trouble pinpointing what was going on. As I drove home tonight, I thought I should have asked to borrow one the pictures of Samie, so I could scan it in & post it here on YT so all could see her. I will try to get a pix of her. Connie did have posters with Samie's picture, so maybe a neighbor or someone scanned Samie's picture & they could email me one. What else should I do to help?????? |
There are just too many yorkies going missing :( It makes me so sad and scares me. And it makes me really angry at these people stealing them! I wish there was something that can be done to stop these people - there needs to be a much harsher punishment. I hope she gets her baby back. Please keep us update. Hopefully it was the neighbors and they'll return her for the money. I hope small dog owners learn to stop using doggie doors...it's just not safe to have your dog outside when you can't supervise them. There are just too many bad people that will steal them out of your yard. (BTW I just want to clarify that I'm not blaming the owner with this statement because I'm not - just noting that they are too dangerous to use now because of all the yorkie theifs) |
I hope Samie is returned, and is she microchipped? This is an epidemic and small dogs are prime targets for stealing. Warmly, Deborah |
no she is not microchipped. She was wearing a collar & tags. Connie is taking Taylor right away to be microchipped. Connie is so sad, she is almost talking like its too late to save Samie. I decided I'm going to call her in the morning & suggest that she call the high school near her house & see if the Spanish teacher would help her write a note for her neighbors. I'm just thinking the guy she handed the not to might not have had an English person to read the note to him. |

These people might be transit people, we have them down here they come in help harvest the crops for a few months and then they move on to fl. for the winter, farmers down here go as far to make sure the kids have a school to go to while they are here and a daycare for the babies. |
oh noo! another baby missing, hope she can be found soon, praying for that! |
If their are a lot of Spanish speaking people there maybe she could get someone to write up a poster in Spanish too. |
This is so very sad....I have no idea how anyone could 1, steal a Yorkie. 2, not return them when they are found. Very sickening. I dont even walk my dogs anymore. :( I dont like them to be infront of the house period. I moved the ottomen from under my picture window that Bella could watch outside (making her visable to people walking/driving by) I made my myspace page private and will not create her or Diggy a page. We have no idea how these dogs are singled out to be stolen and its very scary. I pray for the best for Samie and Connie...Please keep us updated. |
No news yet today. I left Connie a message about getting some things written up in Spanish, but I haven't heard back from her yet. I know she was going to try to follow the steps in the how to find a lost dog thread. I believe she is retired, so at least she wouldn't have a job to go today. This is the first business day, since Samie went missing, so hopefully she can get in contact with a lot of vets, groomers, etc. to get the word out. |
I hope they find Samie soon. That's so sad. There is an epidemic of small dog/puppy thieves everywhere it seems. Three Poodle puppies were stolen from a home in Florida when I was there. Someone said they saw them being sold (or attempting to be sold) the next day in a nearby town. They were only 6 inches tall and hadn't been innoculated yet. I wish I had some great ideas for getting Samie back. :( |
I am so sorry to hear about Sammie, I hope that she is found soon! My daughter lives in Urbandale and I will mention this to her, although if the dog was stolen, well that is just too depressing to think about. I know people are always kidding about taking one of mine, but we know there are folks out there who will steal anything and with yorkies being so sought after, it's bound to happen. People in the Des Moines area maybe can be on the lookout for someone trying to sell a female for cheap? anyway, I sure hope she is found soon! |
I don't want to get over excited, but I mentioned this to our doggie sitter, and she knows of someone that found a lost yorkie in the last week. I don't know exactly where, and she thinks that it's a male, but isn't for sure. I gave her Connie's name and phone number, and she is going to do some asking around to see if it could be Samie! I also told her that Samie was chipped, so hopefully the person that found her will take the lost dog to the vet to check for a microchip! I'll keep you posted! |
No Chip in Samie -- so that won't help. She was wearing tags, but easily removed. I spoke with Connie later yesterday & she had followed several of the steps on the How to Find a Lost Dog thread that she had not done before I took her the information. She had been to all the shelters & all over looking for Samie. Connie just sounds so helpless -- it's really sad. She is taking her other dog Taylor to get chipped today. Apparently Taylor is not eating well....really missing her sister. francis53 thanks for telling your daughter! Getting the word out is so important. |
Connie just called to let me know that someone thinks they spotted Samie -- problem was they spotted her on Saturday night. They tried to reach her, calling for Samie to come, which she did, but as soon as the gal walked towards Samie, the dog bolted. Connie said that's what Samie does. So catching her may be a problem, but I would think that she would be hungry & thirsty. It was like 85 here yesterday, it rained in the middle of the night & this morning & I'm not even sure it has reached 60 yet today. It would be great if this is Samie, so maybe she wasn't stolen or maybe someone tried to steal her & she got away from them. Connie had someone coming to the house to make it impossible for the dogs to get out or someone else to get to them -- not sure exactly what that means. Thanks for the prayers, hopefully Samie will get home. Connie sounded more hopefully this afternoon than she did yesterday |
an update Tonight I was so filled with joy about Maddie finding her way home after nearly 3 1/2 mths, that I wanted to share with Connie that there is always hope. So I printed off a few of the pages about how Maddie came home & the 1st page of the thread about how she went missing out of a fenced yard - because this is what happened to Samie too. I took the pages over to Connie, & she had some news to share with me. Samie has been seen - so as of this afternoon she is still alive. Francis53, I don't know where your daughter lives in Urbandale -- but I wanted to tell you & get the word out to anyone else in the area, Samie was last spotted north of Meredith Ave. around 72nd St. There is a big church over there, a lot of trees, & the newer ice arena. But also lots of woods & trails - she's back in there somewhere. But anytime someone sees Samie - Samie takes off running. Connie even caught sight of her, but there were so many kids trying to help her find Samie, the dog apparently got spooked by everyone else. Please pray she is able to get Samie, before something happens to her. There are so many wild animals back there. It even scares me in my yard at night when I have seen opossums & raccoons. Connie is considering trying to set a trap - but she may catch some other critter instead. Does anyone know if they make cages/traps that could safely catch a dog, without hurting the dog? Prayers please & thank you. |
Something I thought of.....Maybe Connie can go to the area where she was spotted and take Taylor on a long leash and be calling out for Samie. Maybe Samie will spot / smell Taylor and come out of hiding! Just a thought. I am praying. :animal-pa |

Good idea about the long leash -- I'll mention this. She has taken Taylor, but without any luck. Connie was up much of the night driving around looking for her, so she was pretty exhausted. But I'm going to believe she will find Samie tomorrow. The poor little thing has got to be hungry & maybe thirsty. There has to be a stream back in there & it did rain yesterday, so maybe she found some standing water. |
Great News!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: SAMIE HAS BEEN FOUND! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Yorkiesmiles just called me (she's out of town and Bubba & Roxie are staying with us!) and told me that Samie is back with her owner, Connie! Samie had been wandering around in a wooded area near her home, which was across a busy 4 lane street! Somehow, she managed to find her way home to her mommy! Connie was out in the yard, and spotted Samie. She said that Samie looked scared and disoriented, but when Connie stayed still, Samie came right up to her, and Connie brought her home! I'm sure Connie was really relieved to see her little Samie again! Welcome home, Samie!!! It's a great week for happy endings to missing yorkies, I guess! I love it! :excited: |
