Teacup Yorkie - NW Arkansas? Hi! My name is Cathy and I live in Northwest Arkansas, Rogers exactly. I am curious if there is a teacup Yorkie breeder anywhere near me - that the puppies are not priced at $2500? Any suggestions? Thanks! |
Hi Cathy and welcome to our yorkie community. The first thing that you'll hear from many people here is that there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie. Yorkie lovers do not use that term to describe yorkies. Yorkies do come in different sizes though. The breed standard states that yorkies are usually between 4-7 pounds. Smaller yorkies are just smaller yorkies. There are health risks associated with smaller sizes. Be sure to do your research so that you'll know what you're getting yourself into. My Cooper is 7 months old and is 3.3# and Carter is 15 months and is 3.4#. Neither have had any difficulties to this point in their lives but that doesn't mean it will continue that way. You might check out http://mylittlemia.com. There is great information to be found about smaller yorkies on that site. Good luck in your search! An informed buyer is a wise buyer! Lisa |
welcome to yorkietalk!!!!!! everything Lisa said is true. |
I pm'ed you with some info on some breeders around your area. I am not too far from you. Welcome to YT. |
much luck Still not having much luck, but not giving up!Thank you! |
DId you call those people I told you about. |
Some luck I called the number in Missouri and left a message. I have not heard back from them. I have talked to another lady you told me about and she is going to have a litter closer to my price range - due at the end of the month. It is hard to be that patient, though. There were no yorkshire terriers in the NW Arkansas news today. Did you have anyone else I could contact? Thanks so much for your help! |
Tell me more about Cosmo? How big is he? What is his disposition? |
Rudy! Thank you so much you guys! I found a little guy about 15 minutes from my home. I met him and his parents last night. His parents are around 3 - 4 lbs each and he is almost 6 weeks old and weighs a little over 1 lb. Oh my gosh I am in love! He cannot come home until the 13th, a little over a week and I am about to go crazy - but mommy time is important! I will post some pictures as soon as I get him!! Thanks again! |
That is great. Cosmo is about 6 lbs but he does have a belly. lol. He has a great personality, he is very hyper at times, but he is adorable. Tell me about the puppy, where did you find him and hw muh was he (if you dont mind me asking). I am in search of a female. Congrats!!! |
Rudy Rudy is costing us $500. His parents both weigh approximately 3lbs - we met them last night. They do have other puppies, too. A friend of mine fell in love with Rudy and is buying another male from the same place. They do not have a female from the same litter - but they do have a 2nd litter with the same father. I am getting him outside of Rogers near War Eagle. I am so excited I can hardly wait! |
Congrats, cant wait to see pictures. |
Breeder in Mountain Home maybe When I was thinking of a Yorkie I found a breeder in Mountain Home,AR. I dont' remember if she had teacups or not. I found her on one of the big puppy locator sites. I think she had Papillons also. Sorry not to be more help. I had a computer crash that ate a lot of my old bookmarks, etc. BTW, I'm in Harrison. |
Hi and welcome. Roger's Arkansas?? WOW, you are the closest YT member so far. I am in Tontitown w/ my spoiled Schatzie. I wish you all the best in your research to find the best Yorkie ever. I have personally not found many breeders in this area. My Yorkie's were from OK but beware, this area is filled w/ puppy mills. :( I cannot stress enough how important research is, it truly will pay off and give you the Yorkie of your dreams! :aimeeyork |

Okay...I'm an idiot...I didn't notice the date. Duh!!! |
Teacups..... HI........I understand that there is "no such thing" as "Teacup Yorkie", but what's the harm? I tend to disagree with your statement that Yorkie lovers do not use this term to describe Yorkies"........I find just the opposite. Those of us that have "smaller" Yorkies LOVE to refer to them as "Teacup" just to emphasize how small and cute they are. And, what is the harm? I think it's just a term of affection and shouldn't be taken so seriously. Just my opinion. I love all YORKIEs no matter what size they are....:) Quote:

What's the harm? Liver, heart, kidney, and joint issues to begin with. Breeders who force 3 and 4 lb bitches to carry litters of as many as 6 puppies. Bitches who die because their tiny bodies can't handle birthing those babies. Hypoglycemia and failure to thrive in impossibly tiny babies. Andy for WHAT, EXACTLY?! So someone can brag on how tiny and CUTE their pup is? So that tiny little baby will grow up and MAYBE live 8-10 years. And if their lucky, no broken bones or surgeries costing in the thousands of dollars to repair slipped kneecaps or blown out hips? Yes, there's a LOT of HARM by promoting TEACUPS! I'm not attacking you! You asked the question. You need to know the answer, no matter how ugly it is. |
Breeders who purposefully breed a small dog to be less than the standard minimum and a size so small are breeding for money. Most know that these dogs cannot live the life of a happy, carefree, normal and active dog and many, many are so easily injured with their extremely tiny size and fragile body parts, particularly joints and bones. Tiny dogs tend to have dental problems - bad gums and teeth in addition to the horrible various genetic problems they tend to be born with. If one doubts that there are a host of medical problems associated with breeding for tiny puppies, Google the terms several ways. You will easily see that all voices of medical and breeding knowledge and scholarship speak loudly as to the horror of these disgusting breeding practices. Think of very tiny people and all of the many medical and social problems that they have associated with their tiny size - it is equally awful for dogs. Of course a tiny dog has no chance in any dogfight and cats and other critters may easily prey on them when one on one. My Tibbe is 5.3 lbs. and our neighbors 18 lb. cat used to stalk and once attacked him out in our back yard. He had no shot against that cat and thankfully I was standing on the backporch when the cat swatted him. I got around the corner of the house and toward the scene so fast that the cat was startled and froze in place and then took off! I called Animal Control in the morning and they gave my neighbor a warning for having loose animals living on her premises. But had Tibbe been only a 2 1/2 or 3 lb. dog, that swat could have knocked him down and the cat been on him in no time. What if I hadn't been on that back porch and Tibbe has somehow gotten out alone? I speak from personal, painful experience. I saw a tiny Yorkie suffer trying to live her life. Her tiny size eventually was related to her death. I still tear-up when I think of how different and hard her little life was because she tended to so much illness and discomfort. Anyone that knowing breeds for tiny dogs that are going to likely have problems as my Jilly did - I won't say what I would like to happen to them and their greed. They are beyond cruel. But just Google "medical problems breeding tiny Yorkshire Terriers" and phrases like that and read what the dog experts and reputable breeders have to say on the matter. Do your research and you will see the heartbreak, pain and costs that can be associated with breeding and owning a tiny Yorkie. |
In my opinion only bad breeders use thee word teacup. Most will say we have teacups and standard and that misleads people because yorkies are all yorkies no matter what the size. They also will jack up the price of them. I have yet to see a good breeder advertise teacups. If any one can show me one I would love to look :) |
I am also in Rogers!! Cathy can you pm me info on where you got your yorkie and how he is doing?? So hard to find good breeders here in that price range!! |
