| Kahlie23 | 07-10-2005 09:29 PM | canine Diabetes On July 7th I had taken Kahlie in for her grooming and routine yearly shots. Prior to her appointment date I started to notice that Kahlie was drinking more and going to the bathroom more ( in the house) I thought that she had an UTI so I asked the vet to please check her urine while she was there. She called me and told me that it appears that Kahlie has suger in her urine and wanted to know if it was okay if they did blood work on her. I said that was fine bacause I wanted to know how high her suger was. When the Vet called with the results I about died!! She told me that Kahlie's suger was 450 and that she will need to have insulin twice a day and be on a prescription high fiber diet. I thought how could this be? The next day I was to bring her in and they were to show me how to administer the insulin. Kahlie gets 7 units of insulin. She has had 5 doses of insulin and today 7/10 I have noticed that it appears that when she was walking up a small step it looks as if her back leg slightly gave out, and once it looked like she staggared slightly. I hope that she will adjust to the meds and this will not get any worse. I have the k-tone strips and I thought that I would check it before I gave her the injection and it was as brown as tree bark, and I checked it again about 1 hour after her injection and it wasn't as brown but it was still up there. I am so afraid that if they increase her insulin and she is showing slight weekness what will more do for her just to bring her suger down? |
