Playgroup Northern Il? Just wondering if anyone has a pup that would like to get together around N. Illinois (especially NIU) that would enjoy attending a playgoup? I searched the forums up and down and couldn't find anyone wanting to start one or if one had already been started. Please let me know as my little Tony is full of energy and would love some playmates. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D |
I live in Gurnee a little farther east then you. |
wowiee.. I just mapquested DeKalb to Gurnee and it is about 90 mi but on the weekends I am at my parents house in Lake Zurich... only about 20 mi! |
Anyone? |
I'm in Sugar Grove - about 20 mins from DeKalb. I take Loki on Fridays to his trainer's doggie daycare in Elburn and he plays with the big dogs. I'm interested in a little dog playgroup too! I don't have a fence though, so it would be best to find someone in the area with a big fenced yard - or they can all play inside? Loki is almost 2 and he's about 10 pounds. PM me if you want my email. |
anyone else? Would anyone else be interested in a playgoup out in Northern Illinois?:aimeeyork |

I'm interested!!! Lake Zurich isn't that far from me, I'm in Fox Lake. |
Anyone with a frnced yard of a park in the general area we could use? |
Lets get this ball rolling! Alright so we don't have a yard yet, but we are working on getting a doggy daycare to sponser a Yorkie play group. How awesome would that be? Anyways we are going to pull this together and finally I get to actually see all of your pups in person, instead of just scrolling across your avatars (I still havn't figured out how to do mine...) so I am gonna bump this thread and see if we get anyone else. :D ohhh I am so excited! OK well tell me more about what you are thinking. Typically I take Loki to daycare during the day and drop him off, but if you are thinking more of a supervised playgroup in the evening or something then we'd have to first find out if we can rent the place (I'll ask at class Tuesday) and then we'd have to work it around her evening classes. She usually has class Tuesday and Wednesday night. Maybe she'd let us use it on a Friday night? I don't even know if she rents it out, or how much it would cost. Usually we just all pick a day and send our dogs together that day to daycare. Like she tells me when all the "little" dogs, the beagles and yorkies mostly, are coming and I take Loki on those days. But really if you're just thinking of having a little playgroup for an hour or two I bet someone would just host it at their house. I would do it here but we only have room for about 4 or so and they would have to stay inside. We are really busy for the next 4 weekends or so though, so I don't think my husband would go for it. |
If the facility would maybe rent it out once a week for 2 hours that would work, but if it couldn't we could do someone's house. I live in a 2bdrm apt that is definately too small. We need a yard... |
Maybe we could all meet up at a dog park. If I had my own yard I would definitly welcome all here, or if our basement was finished. |
great idea! I have no clue where any dog parks are out here. If you know of any or if you could let me know how to find some, I would be more than willing to do some research. |
There is one in St. Charles/Geneva near Rt. 38, but there is no separate area for smaller dogs. I believe a dog was just killed there recently because some man brought his agressive dog in and the guy wouldn't even leave AFTER it happened. So I wouldn't recommend any dog parks that don't have small areas for small dogs. The next closest ones I know of are near Naperville, but I am not familiar with them. One of the ones near Naperville does have a small dog area. |
What about any dog events? I saw a poster for a Dog Run/Walk athon at the vet, but it was already past. Maybe we can all go to some sort of doggy event and get a little yorkie ontourage going? |
I lik the dog park idea, but definately not enough to go to the one where the pup was killed... the other one sounds good. I have never been to any parks before... so are there any requirements, like certain shots or liscenes? Also, if there are any events that would be awesome |
Doggie "fun day" In case any of you are interested, my trainer is hosting a "fun day" on Sat. Sept. 30th. It starts at 10am and you can see dog dancing demos, enter contests, and see if your dog can pass the Canine Good Citizen test. PM me if you want directions or more info. Oh, it's in Elburn. Just west of Geneva. |

At Independance Grove, in Libertyville, you need a license to take your dog their. It's like $100/yr to go there. I'm not sure if shots are required for all dog parks, but I would make sure your baby is UTD on all shots just because you never know what other dogs have carried there. |
Dog Parks Here's a list I found of Dog parks in IL. Maybe we can check out one of these? |
