Double Teeth I asked my vet about the fact that Mckenzie has many double teeth and they seemed unconcerned. He said that they prefer to wait it out to see if they come out naturally and if they aren't out by around a year then they like to look into other options such as pulling. They told me that small dogs can take much longer to lose their baby teeth and that this is totally normal and is not painful to have doubles. I do plan on getting her spayed in a month or two, I know I should do it right now -- but I am *really* nervous to and prefer to wait a while longer. I *will* get it done though. If her baby teeth haven't fallen out by then I will get them pulled while she is in for her spay. I just wanted to know -- does this cause any discomfort in the meantime for her? She's still eating normally, I'm giving her plenty of chew toys and bully sticks to gnaw on and I use Petzife Oral Gel and brush so that there is no build up of plaque. She's right around 8 months. Thanks guys :) |
My Keno just lost her bottom double canine at 11.5 months ... so do not worry, it usually happens ... now she is a grown-up doggie with all her adult teeth, I think  |
I waited until they were spayed. The teeth didn't seem to bother them too much and I didn't want they put under twice in such a short time. I asked the doc to keep all the teeth pulled. YIKES! You should see how deep the roots were on the teeth they pulled from Jolie! No wonder they didn't come out on their own! He pulled a total of 7 baby teeth! |
As long as you're keeping them clean, they shouldn't be causing any pain. I just remember Lacy's breath stinking so bad before I got hers pulled. If they don't fall out on their own, you do want to pull them though because they can mess up the alignment of the teeth and bite |

Teddi had shark teeth....she just got 6 pulled about 3 weeks ago. I thought she would have crooked teeth but now they are perfectly straight and beautiful. I guess the crooked ones were the baby teeth. The doctor said the canines would have never come out without pulling them. He said the other 4 in the front might have eventually come out but she is over 1 year old. |
Lily got spayed on Thursday and had her baby teeth pulled. She had a full set, and when I say a full set, I mean she had a whopping 18 teeth pulled. I couldn't believe it...even the vet was surprised. She's still on pain meds but seems to be doing ok. |
ahhh poor Lily! Bella will be spayed soon and there is only one tooth. I keep dragging my feet on setting the appointment hoping that a chew will knock it out like it did on the opposite side. Poor Lily girl, I can't imagine!! Hope she is up and running soon!;) |
