You've gotten some great advice here. I would definately rethink his food. Bella is 1 and she only poops twice a day..max. Usually an hour after she eats. Maybe you could walk him after meal time. Don't give up yet!!! Also, I had to confine Bella to just one room in the house until she got it. Chin up and Good luck!!;) |
your commands may be a little confusing for the little guy too. no potty and good potty probably sound pretty similar to him. you may just want to say "no" when he does bad and "good potty" when he does good. dogs think and hear much differently than humans obviously, so when training you have to try to think like a dog. got a good book dedicated on how to potty train a pup and im sure he will learn quickly. my pup is 13 weeks and i fully pee pad trained him in 3 days. now he has free run of the apartment with no accidents. i bought an animal psychology book before getting him to fully understand how puppies think. |
Cozmo Thanks for all the :goodpost: . I know what I am doing for Cozmo is what I did for Deiter and he was fully house broke at 6 months. But now that I read your post and stop and think I got Deiter at 12 weeks and Cozmo at 1 1/2 years old. And this is what he was taught to do by the older gentleman. I am going to try the leash on my waist, But to be honest with you all. I really don't think it will work. But I will put all my heart and soul in it. When I take him outside I do lots of praise, jumping:yay_jump: , clapping,:clapsmile excited voice.:excited: The business across the street when the girls are out smoking laugh at me. They told me I am the cheapest and best entertainment they get while working and often think of me on the week-end because they are afraid that I am going to do something new with out them there. I just laughed at them. They didn't mean nothing bad by what they told me. They just love watching us outside. :thankyou2 Thanks again for all your help and I will try each and everyone to see if your ideas work better or just get the pooping thing under control. Lynda |
warning: high yuch factor in this post Good luck with the pooping training :) or should I say anti-pooping training... anyway, you've gotten lots of great advice here. I know somewhere someone mentioned food. Consider placing him on a high-quality dog food known for producing small stools. I know it sounds nuts, but my Bernie is incontinent (both urinary and bowel) as a result of being run over by a car (before I gotg him) My vet had us switch him to a senior food (I've since switched him to Pinnacle Trout, which isn't a senior food but works very well) and he hasn't had to wear diapers in the house for ages! Actually, I thought he was cured. Then the store where I buy their dogfood was OUT and I had to give him something else for a day or too. All I can say is, "watch out for flying poo!". So, he is apparently still semi-incontinent (there's definitely no control when it flies...trust me) but on this food can control it. Anyway, MY POINT IS, it creates smaller, less frequent stools...that may help too. |

I can understand your frustration. I think he needs a little more time to adjust. Sometimes it takes a while with these little guys. Just be consistant with what you are doing and don't feed him past 5 or so. |
update yesterday and today. I have been only letting him play if he goes potty outside. So as you guess he only got to play the morning 7:00 - 11:30. Now when he went out the morning at 7:00 he did poop. So he got to play. we went out again about 8:30 no poop, but I kept him on the lead next to me, We went out serveral more times and no poop. We did take many walks about 1/2 each time still no poop. Then was time for lunch. We went for another walk about 45 min, and still nothing so I put him in his create. Now we have been outside at least 7 times went for walks and just to potty. Well still no poop. So back in the create. Then supper 5:15 Go for a walk again before it got dark and still no poop. Now here it is 8:12 and still no poop. Just came in from being out there for 1/2 hour. So now back in the create. He wimppers because he wants to play with Deiter. I said Cozmo no potty no play. Now all this time today Deiter goes with us. I am thinking that when he sees Deiter go and get a treat then maybe he would get the idea. Ya that was wrong. He just looks at Deiter and I like it is no big deal. I will poop on my time not yours. But then when in the create and on the lead he wimpers so bad. This is not easy, I will continue this again tomorrow. But I sure would think that he is going to have to poop before bed time isn't he.............. I feel so bad being he can't play. But no poop no play. Does this sound like I am on the right track or not. |

Well, think of it this way. For whatever reason, he isn't pooping a dozen times a day like he was, right? So, maybe that means that he IS trainable! And the fact that he isn't pooping in his crate is a good thing. It means that he DOES have some control. Did you think about a different food at all yet? I think that you're on the right track. I think it's one of a very few "tracks" you have before giving up. Sending you strength and patience........... |
Training problems I am having the same problem with Shadow! I have been very consistant with the going out and both he a Sissy are doing well with it BUT Shadow poops in the kennel EVERY time he is in it even when he has just eliminated outside.... I am going NUTS! I have cleaned out the kennel and washed towels at least four times today and that doesn't include the pooping he will do overnite... Just now he went outside. eliminated came in the kitchen and walks on his own into the kennel and POOPS again.........He is on the Science Diet food that the Vet recommends......and does have giardia...I am hoping that this is the problem and will pass....but I am afraid of the habit he is forming Any suggestions |

Unfortunately Cozmo's issues are deeper seated than just being a puppy. He's a rescue puppy with a troubled past. |
Pooh Trouble or Dogfood Quality? Yorkies are either very easy to Potty Train or very hard.......but it sounds like you need to feed him a high quality dogfood like Royal Canin, that is made especially for Yorkies? Give him scheduled feedings @ certain times of the day and evening and crate him too! Totally regulate his whole Life it sounds kind of ridiculous until you control his bowel movements and then once you get him used to your Routine you can actually trust him? Yorkies are very bright and smart, once they understand and it is clear what you want and expect from him he will figure it out and do everything you ask of him! Have you bonded with him yet? I have 3, 1 male and 2 females. My male was potty trained in 2 days but my 2 females that are 3 yrs. old and her 1 yr. old puppy still have accidents but most of the time it is my fault or my BF's for not taking them out in time (more than 8 hrs. at a time). But for the record mine don't go pooh more than twice a day so it seems that he is going pooh more than average? What kind of Dogfood do you feed him? Don't give up, there is a simple answer, Good Luck! |
Yes, I am crazy about both Sissy and Shadow but have gotten off to a very rough start as a Yorkie owner. My sweet little Ginger died after I had her only 10 days. It is was a heart breaking experince and I miss her terribly but i now know that something? was wrong with her from the begining.....I got two more (i guess trying to fill the void GInger left) and have been busy ever since Just glad I got to love Ginger for a short time. The two I have now are adorable and yes, puppies, but they have had their share of problems....coccidia,giardia and ringworm....so yes I have bonded because they would have never survived without me. At least they are getting lots of love and the medical attention they need. I will look into the food choice... They both know and even go to the door (or at least I recognize "potty behavior")in time to get them outside but the going in the crate is on going |
Cozmo is eating Innova I hope that is how it is spelled. Very good dog food I think it rated # 5. I am staying on top of this. I have come to think that he is just not a pooper.lol He will usually only go once a day. I don't care how much we walk, run, play outside that is the most he will go. Except for today. He has went 2 times, got to play play play. He was so happy. So maybe this is all working. He has never went either in the pen, or on the wee wee pad. I just keep thinking I don't know what he was doing at the home before here. I know that the paper from his vets said that many times was told that he poops in the house. I think he has freedom there and maybe not played with I really don't know. Last night I sat trying to figure out his pattern for pottying. I have been keeping track on paper since we got him. And there is no pattern at all for either in the house or outside. So that didn't help me out any. I do give him fresh veggies with his supper and he loves them. Oh and by the way the older man did tell us that most of the time he (Cozmo) eat Slim Jims, and pepperoni so I am hoping that now he is eating good food for him that maybe it is just taking his system that long to get use to eating right. Yes, I have gotten alot closer to him. Between him and Deiter my lap just isn't big enough. But I make sure that they both get to sit, lay on my lap Thanks to everybody for all the wonderful help. I really think that the ideas are going to work out for us. I am staying on top of them, and doing the same thing everyday now. So maybe that is what he needed. I just hope he gets to play tonight. That really breaks my heart that he doesn't get to play. Thanks again everybody. |

Slim Jims and pepporoni??? Ugh - poor boy! I would think that his system would be going through a major transition. You sound much more hopeful now. I hope you're on the road to sanity!! |
