Dry skin and keeping fleas away After the flea problem the other day and taking Lilly to the vet she's still itching but there are NO fleas on her so I'm assuming it's just her skin being very dry. What's something that I can get to help with this so she'll stop scratching herself to death? Also, we just got back from the vet and I had told him about taking her to the groomer for fleas the other day and he asked what they put on her and I told him Frontline and he notified me that Frontline just kills fleas if they bite, it doesn't keep them off though. So, what's the best thing for keeping fleas off of her (we have some Revolution the vet gave us a while back) and how much does it usually run? Thanks in advance, you guys are great! |

I use Malaseb for the dry skin. Just mix 1/2 ounce with 16 ounces water, and sponge on, leaving it to dry. Thus far, it's been the only thing to keep Chuy's skin from being flaky and itchy. As for fleas, I use capstar twice weekly and bathe him the day after I use it. My vet told me that a new product is about to hit the shelves, it acts like capstar, only it works for a month as opposed to 24-48 hours. HTH!:animal36 |

bella and mickey were itching a lot also a few weeks ago and the vet checked their ears and they had ear mites. so the vet gave me advocate as it kills flea, larvae, hookworm, whip worm, roundworm, heartworm, etc etc,and since they have had that they have been great. i used to use frontline but they kept scratching with it.also it is for small dogs weighing 4kgs or less. |

My Mom just took her dog in to the vets yesterday as he was itching really bad, she is very impressed with this vet and said he's very knowledgeable, he said he had an allergy, said this has been the worse year for allergies in all the years he's been a vet.. |

Mom is 81, so has been around for awhile, and we've had dogs since I was a baby, she has never been as happy with a vet as she has this one, he's like 45 min. away from her, but, when her little shih a poo she had gotten from me years ago was getting close to dying, she took him to this vet, and he was very upfront with her, and told her exactly what to expect..she said he answers every question you ask and takes time with you, and that's really what's important..when you have questions, this vet has the answers, doesn't ignore them..hard to find good vets and good drs. these days |

Emily, what part of KY are you in? I have a brother and sister in Bowling Green |

romeo had surgury and got bit by fleas @ the vet office. he didn't have any fleas on him because the k9advantix killed them, but he was itching because he was allergic to the fleas that bit him. he's allergic to flea bites. he went in flea free and came out with flea bites and skin irritation after surgury. the point* your baby could be allergic to flea bites. |

Emily, sorry didn't read the whole thing, I have the little ones on revolution, but, my shepherd is on sentinel, and I really prefer it, it's in a chewable tablet, once a month..it's for fleas/heartworms.. |
