My favorite answer to that "They've got fur, they don't need a coat" comment is to say, "And tropical birds have down feathers, but you don't see them flying around in the snow and cold, do you?" People who don't have small dogs, especially Yorkies and other single-coated breeds, just don't get it. Don't give her opinions a second thought. I can tell by watching my boys. Jack is 4 pounds, and when he starts shivering, the coat goes on. Eddie is 9 pounds. When he stops running around and exploring and instead stays real close to me, that tells me he's uncomfortably cold too. Booties I use just for snow, but if they tolerate them and it doesn't make walking difficult, I say feel free to use them whenever. |
2 Attachment(s) Oh, I forgot, here's a couple pictures to show the bat: These are Alaskan huskies with coats on them. They are members of two different Iditarod champions' teams. |
Now that I've shaved slade down its its near 70 he gets one of his tees on. It really hasn't been cold enough to wear any of his jackets yet. |
lacey gets a sweater or light jacket on if it 50 or under parka when it hits 35 or when ever she look to chillie. also when i atake her for walks i will put boots on her because the salt can ruin their pads. |
If I feel cold I figure they're cold too. |
When it's a little bit cool, I put a tee on Conner. He has sweatshirts and coats for the colder weather and a snow suit for when it is really cold. If people make comments about dressing my dog, I always say, "He's a dog?" I thought he was my baby!!!!" |
You guys are the best! Thanks guys, you've made me feel so much better. I'm going to continue doig what I'm doing, and if people make rude comments, I'll just think of the great people here and know that I'm not alone. |
