Shipping my baby home Hi everyone, I am going to have my little Sweet William shipped to me. Since I have never done this before I was wondering what others' experience with this is. I am worried he will be afraid. Does it seem to have a permanent effect on them? Or am I just worried for nothing?? Thanks! ~Melody |
I've had 2 babies shipped to me(where is yours coming from and going too)? The first one had gone from Germany to PA, and then was in PA for a couple weeks before I got him..He could not stand being in an enclosed area, my husband even had to make a top for the xpen as he would climb out of it..then he would move the xpen all over the laundry room..he's 2 1/2 now and a fantastic dog(biewer) the other one just got flown to me last week, from Michigan to SC, it wasn't a very long flight, and she was in the crate with her brother, they did fine, and she has no problem in the xpen, except, she cries to be out here with the rest of us..Your baby will do fine, I don't think they remember things like humans do..congratulations on your new baby..you'll love him to death |
He is coming from Oklahomah to Michigan. Thanks for your response. I feel a little better now. Thanks God he doesn't have to go through what yours did. I would be beside myself. Thanks! |
Hi - I had both of my babies shipped to me from FL and due to Continental being the airline with the temp control - both of my babies had to go from FL to TX and then to MD. Seems like a really long 7 hour trip. However, they are both fine and when I got there they were ready to get out of the crate. I do not think they even remember. |
I've had two shipped to me and they did just fine. Take some food and water and a leash with you. As soon as you get your baby get in your car cuddle him/her and give some water and food. Then find a nice grassy area(with leash on) to let them potty. Or do the potty thing first if you think they need it. If they're a tiny have some nutrical for them to lick on. One flew from Alabama to Michigan and another flew from Arkansas to Michigan. |
I had a dog shipped once, and he was a mess from the trip. When I got Sebastian I flew with him, so he wouldn't have to be in the bellly of the plane. |
My little guy was shipped to me from Oklahoma to Chicago, Illinois. He was ok, just a little scared when I got him. As soon as I got him, I just took him out of the crate and put him in a blanket. He had pee peed on himself, so he smelled funny, but he was ok in the car. He was eating and walking around smelling stuff. As soon as I got home and put him in his play pin, he started crying for me. Lol. Just make sure to give your pup water ASAP when he gets to you. My breeder even sent some honey with him and told me to give it to him when he landed. It helps their blood sugar. Good luck! |
Muffin was shipped to me from Missouri to Chicago and with CoCoI flew to Missouri to get her and brought her with me on the plane. Muffin was absolutely fine with the flight. She was already 15 weeks old when I got her and I think that helped that she was a bit older. I just made sure to take her right out of the crate, let her do her business and then held and snuggled her the whole way home from the airport. She never seemed to be traumatized at all. She did smell a little bad though because even though she had a pee pee pad in the crate, she was still sitting on a wet bad for a while. |
Thanks All! Thank you everyone, I feel much better about it now. Whew! Thanks also for all the great ideas about how to treat him when I first pick him up. My baby is almost a year, but only 4 lbs. so I was worried. Of course I always worry! ~Melody |
Something you may ask the person you're getting your puppy from is about getting one of those lick it things that attaches to the front of the cage door, you put water in it and they can lick it to get a drink..Shari had one of those on the door of mine, but, I also had taken a bowl of water, a little food and a pee pad with me to the airport.. |
Thanks for the idea of taking a pee pad. He may need to pee on the way home and I may not be able to stop for that. These are all great ideas everyone, I am making a note :note: of everything! Willie thanks you all too! :aimeeyork :animal-pa ~Melody |
When will your new baby be flying in? |
I don't know when he will be shipped. I am paying him off over a couple of months, so it may be not until January. Very cold here then! :cold smil |
temperatures have to be above a certain temp and below a certain temp or they won't fly them.. |
