Heating pads... Since its already getting colder here, my apartment has been colder. Anyway, I sometimes sleep with a heating pad at night, when its really cold. Riley absolute loves it. My concern is that since he is not even 2lbs, if he lays on it too much, could it start to raise his temp or hurt him? I always keep it on low and when it gets to a certain temp, it turns off, but I'm still kinda worried that it will hurt Riley. |
As long as it is not too hot and he is able to move off of it if he gets too hot, I think it's fine |
now see my vet said no. Because it can burn the insides first before the out side. But I would think if you have the kine that kicks off at a certain temp then maybe. I do know that my daughter use to sleep with hers all the time, then she was having pain on her belly, well the heating pad was cooking her inerds. So the Dr. told her the heat pad is the worse thing that you can sleep with. Go with a hot water bottle. She is still paying for it and always will be. Nothing you can do for it. That is just what I know. |
I would be leary of it. If not the heat, I would worry about the electrical factor (a short, or chewing on the coard, etc.) But obviously, they would love it. If you did use one, I would make sure that there were a couple of layers of blanket between them and the heating pad. I have seen "self-warming" blankets for pets. They reflect the animal's own body heat back to them. I think I would feel better about them. ..... this is coming from someone who LOVES electric blankets. :D |
If he likes the warmth, try one of those things they were talking about on another thread, snuggle something or other, where you put it in the microwave and it stays warm for 10-12 hours, I think I would do that before using a heating pad..the water bottle would be good too, unless he's a chewer.. |
