What do you think about this?? Okay so i'm looking a another girl (yes i've lost my mind) and i came across a two cute yorkie puppies at a Rescue here in Oklahoma. they are very young..i think like 8 weeks?? anyways. I decided to email and find out why they were there. i get an e-mail back saying the rescue purchased the dogs from a breeder who only sells to brokers b/c the broker didn't like these two. Now i understand they are saving the dogs but paying for them? isn't that supporting the breeder to just continue breeding? I have mixed feelings on this and just wanted to know what everyone else's opinions were. |
Hi hi.... I'm in OKC as well... would you mind if I asked you where these little "rescues" are? Which rescue group? You have to be careful, especially in Oklahoma lately - that what you're dealing with is really a "rescue group". All too often, it's nothing more than a private individual coming up with "sob stories" to tug at your heart strings and calling themselves a "rescue" simply to pass along puppies that one or another person has considered "imperfect" or "flawed". I'd be sure to check their not-for-profit status and get their federal registration number, references, etc. before getting involved with any rescue group around here. That's not to say that true rescue groups do not purchase dogs/puppies... I've known many to attend those shady dog auctions just for that purpose... to get a furface out of the horrible conditions and save them from going on to another puppy-miller's kennel..... but they don't generally take animals directly from breeders unless there is some terrible defect or medical issue that the rescuer feels they can help with or unless the dog / pup is headed for euthanasia - - and even then, they don't PURCHASE them... Just sounds a little "fishy".... Keep us posted on what you decide to do and how it turns out! |
Yeah i thought they were like dumped or something .. and they even have papers that come with them! i just thought it was kinda strange.. the rescue is Oklahoma Boston Terrier & French Bulldog Rescue |
I've heard of OBTR but don't know much about them.... they do seem to have a reputable rescue organization and they do boast of their 501-C (3) recognition... (although I don't see their 501-C (3) registration number posted anywhere so I would probably do some research on that)... but they otherwise look to be a legitimate group and the pups are both little beauties. If the pup's vet documentation, health evaluations, prelim. testing, etc. and all else is in order, I don't imagine it would be any more of a risk than purchasing from a local breeder. I still doubt the way they came about having these babies, but in the long run, since you are looking for a pet and not a breeding animal, if they are happy and healthy - that's what's important! Good luck and let us know how it turns out!! |
