I've noticed that Lilly does NOT like other dogs. She absolutely loves people and thinks that we are all made to pet her and fawn over her! :p

But every time we encounter another dog that is her size or only a little bigger..she acts like she wants nothing to do with it. She turns her head and backs away.

If it's a big dog then she growls, huffs, and gets on her hind legs. Today when I was walking her there was the GORGEOUS Golden Retriever and he was so gentle and nice. The owners saw that Lilly was really small so they made their dog lay down on his side in a submissive state...but Lilly just barked and growled! :confused: :confused:

The owners thought it was cute but it's starting to bother me...what can I do to get her more socialized...none of my friends have dogs and as far as I know there are no dog parks around MSU.

HELP!

Layla used to have the same problem. i was very embarassed about her behaviour. A friend of mine is a dog behavioural trainer and she just suggested more expsoure to big dogs so we joined an obedience class where there was more "off leash" time. Some dogs have leash agression and feel nervous that they have no control. Layla hid under the chair a lot but i can now say she is 95% better. she still has a hard time when i am holding her... she can be agressive but she is just protecting HER mom. you should probably enroll her in something with a lot of dogs so she gets to see that she is fine. if that fails i would try finding a dog behaviouralist. you want to stop this reaction before it gets worse. Hang in there.. it's do-able

hmm I was thinking about doing some classes w/ her...I will def research it!

Socialization would help alot, because if this isn't taken care of now you won't be able to take her out in public without her having a fit. Similar to the screaming kid in a restaurant situation.

My Rosi is more of a people dog, she just loves them, she is use to being around some dogs, but she doesent realy want anything to do do with strange dogs. Apollo is totaly the opposite, he likes all dogs and wants to play, but he is shy around people :eek:
