Calling all experts!!!!!!!!! I want my Rocco to sleep in the bed with be and he so wants to but I have a fear of either kicking him off by accident in the middle of the night or him trying to jump off and get hurt. (he has no fear) My bed is really high. Currently he sleeps in his bed which is on the floor right beside me. He is only 11 weeks and a little over 2lbs so do you think I should leave him on the floor in his bed or take the risk and put him in mine? |
When i first got my babies I was afraid of them sleeping on the bed too. Rocky's 5.9lbs and he sleeps on the bed every night, my fiance is afraid he'll roll overhim so he sleeps on my side, and he does o.k. He has fallen off the bed before, not because of us, but he'll be rolling around or whatever and fell, but he never got hurt. Bella is 3.5lbs and she was sleeping on our bed until we found out she was peeing under the bed in the middle of the night:eek: But she always did o.k. She would sleep right by my stomach and never fell off or got rolled over. I would wait until maybe your puppy is another lb or so, and it also depends on how "durable" your puppy is. Rocky and Bella both seem pretty strong, that's another reason I allow them on the bed, so if they do fall, like Rocky has, I know their O.K. |
We let ours sleep with us at a young age. They never fell off or jumped off and our bed is pretty high also |
I would say keep him in his bed. Is he crated? I am envious of all you YT moms with babies that can be left alone! I cant trust mine! :p |
When I got my first yorkie, Gracie, I had a really high bed also. I never let her in it because I was also afraid. I now have a regular sized bed but Gracie and Spike both sleep in my daughter's bed. Sugar sort of sleeps in my bed but at 3 lbs he can't jump on or off of the bed and I was worried about knocking him off. I have a bench at the foot of my bed with Sugar's bed on it and Sugar sleeps in it. That way when I first go to bed he can snuggle with me but when I go to sleep he goes down to his own bed. |
We've had Lucy in the bed with us from 12 weeks (1lb. 11 oz. at the time). We also have a high bed and have never had a problem (thank goodness). |
Bitsy has 3 carriers. One is a soft carrier that stays in the car for when she travels in the car. Another is a hard carrier that stays in her play area (fenced off hallway and bathroom) and the third is a soft tent like looking thing that I keep on my bed (Queen size bed) beside my pillow. At bedtime, Bitsy plays on my bed while I read before lights out. Then when it's time to actually sleep, I put her in her tent and zip her up. She gets to sleep with me in bed but I am comforted to know she won't fall off the bed or have an accident. |
11 weeks is awfully young for him to sleep with you..they will have accidents at night(my sister has had them pee on her pillows and have had diarrhea, not a fun thing to wake up too, or get woken up by..I tried letting my yorkie sleep with me a year ago, hubby said NO, this is our bed, and she has her own...So, all 3 of them(the 12 week old is still in her xpen with her bed) sleep in the family room where their pee pads and their beds are.. |
I have my Toby in the bed with me since day 1 he is very small but I hvae never had a problem. He won't jump off the bed that's the last thing they want. Well at least my pup all he wants to do is snuggle and get tucked in under the blankets with his own pillow:eek: |
Tanks always been in bed with me but I admit I made my husband take the bed apart and put the mattress on the floor when he was new. It was a waste. Tank would never think of leaving. I do still worry about rolling on him but Im a worry wort. I worry unneedlessly my husband says.:D |
Cody sleeps with me in the bed. He does great!! I take him out before going to bed to use the bathroom and burn off energy. So he sleeps all night . maybe moves once. but he sleeps in middle of bed so I never have to worry! |
I would resist the urge to tuck him under the blankets. I know some people do, but I've heard of at least one tragedy happening. I feel safer when they sleep down by my feet. They still take comfort in knowing the are curled up next to you. You might eventually look into getting some doggy steps. Once he learns the right way to get down, he won't experiment with other ways. |
Izzy won't sleep with us and prefers her bed in the corner of our room. Luna, however, has slept with us since about 5 months, before that they were in an xpen at the foot of our bed. Our bed is high, but we have steps leading up to a little bench that has a second set of steps on it so that they can just step onto and off of the bed without having to jump. We started off with Luna in her little bed in between us, but soon she was cuddling up with Daddy or me, so now she just has her big blankie up there if she gets too warm, she ends up there. I did wake up the other day to Luna under the covers, I panicked when I couldn't find her, turns out she was under the blankets by my belly:laugh: |
LullaBelle believes that our bed is her bed ! We put her on the bed just to see how she would like it when she was a puppy. (we have a water bed) and now she is like obsesed with sleeping on our bed! I think it' sb/c it is so commfy! At first we just put her on the bed and she would walk around or laydown but we always took her off the bed and let her sleep in her doggie bed until she was potty trained and could jump on and off the bed with out our assistance! Ever since then she is a pro jumper and just has to sleep right in between hubby and myself! lol Sometimes I wish she wasn't so darn nosey! :p (wink wink if you catch my drift!) |
I put Dakota in the bed right when I first got her. But my bed is against the wall, so I feel safer and I put her bed over towards the wall. I kicked her off one night, dont know how she ended up towards the end ? |
