Hi I'm new I'm new to the forum. I want to find out if the yorkie breed is the right breed for me. I have poodles and I have always thought the yorkie breed was cute so I need more information and I feel that owners of the dog are my most reliable source. Thanks Grandma J |
welcome :) |
Welcome to YT. You have come to the right place to get answers for your questions. Everybody here is very helpful. I did a lot of reading on here before I got Deiter. And I learned more here than I did from any book. Eveybody here is the best advise you can get. They have taught me a lot. Good luck |
I have only had my yorkie for about 9 months so I am so means an expert. This is how I feel about my baby: She is the best thing that has ever happened, besides my "real" children of course! I read a post on here not long ago that compared our furbabies to our real children and I loved it!!! Yorkies do not talk back, complain, expect money for doing things, they do not take advantage of us. They give us unconditional love...I wish I could give credit to the person who wrote this because it was awesome, thank you! They are the most devoted little things you will ever find. It is absolutly amazing how much love they give you, never asking for anything in return! All that being said, they take patience and time. She is still not 100% potty trained, her bladder is so small, and she requires alot of grooming time. Although I look at this time as an excuse to spend more time with her :p If you have the time and patience, then I say go for it, you will not be sorry :animal36 |
Welcome to YT! There's so much information on this site. Yorkies are wonderful little dogs but aren't neccessarily the right breed for everyone so it's wonderful that you are doing your research first |
Hi, you came to the right place to find out information ... I have found Yorkies to be very loving and adorable, but they do require attention and they are high maintenance (which we love doing, since they look so cute dressed up and groomed nicely) ... but make sure you do more research so you know what you are going to expect ..... |
Welcome a board! You've find a gold mine of information here! |
Welcome. I have learned so much here and everyone is so nice and helpful. |
Welcome to YT 1 Attachment(s) HI AND WELCOME TO YT I am sure you will find all you need to know about the yorkie breed by using the sites "search" engine. I had a poodle and loved the breed; now I have two maltese (love the breed) and a yorkie (love the breed). Yorkie's are alittle more active to me than the maltese but are about equal with the poodle's fiesty attitude. Just buy from a reputable breeder and you won't go wrong with a yorkie! |

Hi! Welcome! |
Hi Hi and welcome. I am a new member as well. Also a Grandma. Last year we decided to get a Yorkie, and found Tootsie. Things worked out so well with her, that we decided to get her a companion, and along came Teddy. All I can say is that they are the sweetest, most loving dogs we have ever had. They each have their own little personality. I have found them to be a very energetic, intelligent breed. Tootsie would play ball until she drops, and sometimes, it is a little hard to keep up, but hey, I can use the exercise. The only advice I can give is that if your grandchildren are very young,(mine are in their teens) make sure that they are very careful around them, and handle them in a gentle way. I am very cautious when young children come to the house, as without meaning to, they could step on one of them. It sounds as though you are doing your homework, and reading up on them, and I'm sure if you decide to bring one into your home, you won't be sorry. We aren't. Can't imagine life without them. Hello Welcome to YT :) It is Great you are doing your Reasearch .... My mom watches a Poodle and has 3 yorkies She Loves the lil Poodle calls her the red headed step child. I have heard Poodle are alot easier to train but I have to say I love my Three and would not change it for the world. |
:welcome4: to YT! |
WELCOME TO YT!!! :yorkietal you have def. come to the right place to do some research . :) I think yorkies are the sweetest dogs, they are very intelligent, independent but at the same time require alot of human attention. These dogs thrive indoors with their owners. Grooming and teeth brushing is the biggest resposibility. Potty training may be a little stressful  because :aimeeyork can be stubborn. :aimeeyork But if all of this doesn't seem like too much then a yorkie baby will make a wonderful additional to your home. :p |
Welcome :wavey: If I had to pick any one thing to prepare you in considering a Yorkie it would be the potty training. Time and patience - and then more patience! If I had to pick the upsides to having a Yorkie there are far too many to mention. I've been owned by dogs my entire life and nothing compares to a Yorkie. Did I mention time and patience with potty training? :D |

New Hi, I'm new too, but I'm hooked on YT now! I'm going through a hard time right now because we had a litter of puppies, both male and female are ours and the puppies were born with a very rare disease. I found this site while researching the disease. Just wanted to tell you I had a sweet male Yorkie, Fritter for 13 wonderful years when we lost him to heart disease. I was so devasted it took me 3 years to decide I wanted another dog. I still couldn't bear to think of another Yorkie, so we got a toy poodle. We had Rocky for 12 wonderful years until we lost him to Cushings Disease. Having had both Yorkies and Toy Poodles, I actually found them to be very alike in temperment. Each have their own unique personalities, but that is true in all dogs. When we knew we were going to lose Rocky we decided we would get another dog before we lost him. Although Rocky had Cushings he lived about 2 good years with medication and he loved our Yorky. I got another male, and my Yorkie, Snickers, and Rocky would cuddle up and sleep together. They loved one another. So, if you already have a poodle, a Yorkie would probably be a great choice! After we lost Rocky, we bought another companion for Snickers because he was lost without Rocky. We purchased a female this time, Almond Joy, and that led to our current problem!! Good luck, I hope you find the perfect puppy!! |
