Question after question I am somewhat new to YT and am loving it. I have a few questions to put out there for anyone. I'll try to make this short, but let me give you a little background on my 7 month old Yorkie, Pebbles. Pebbles recently got spayed and developed an infection internally and had to have her right kidney removed. Her left kidney is functioning fine. Since both surgeries, she is acting crazier than ever. She seems to be biting more, growling more and house training has gone out the window. She has sort of been confined to the house, except for trips outside to potty(when she doesn't go in the house), because her stitches won't be removed until Thursday. So my questions are ,how do I stop this behavior of biting and growling. I think we are pretty stern with her, but she just doesn't get it. I am a first time dog owner, and am constantly thinking I'm doing everything wrong. Since reading everything on YT, I am also questioning what I am feeding her. I give her ProPlan for small breed with a teaspoon of wet food. Is this a "high quality" of food? And ,only her left ear stands up, her right one droops...what can I do about that? I am open to all suggestions...alot of you seem really experienced in dog care. Kathy |
all my best wishes I am not knowledgeable enough to answer most of your questions ... but if I were you, the last thing I would worry about is her ears ... floppy ears are so cute ... and one up and one down is simply adorable .. I hope she recovers and is well and healthy ... Oh, and welcome to YT ... Quote:

When is she biting and growling? If its during play time be stern and tell her no and then ignore her for a little bit- they hate that. Consistency is the key; don't let her get away with it even once. For the food I think ProPlan is probably average to high for quality. You want to make sure theres meat and vegetables all for the first several ingredients but corn is not good. Theres probably other people who can tell you better about the food choices, also sometimes you can find sites online to help rate your food. For the ear flopping, its a little late, but you still might be able to stand it up. Make sure to trim the hair so there isn't any extra weight on it and then put some tape around it to force it to stand up (may want to use a triangle piece of cardboard to help). Check and retape every few days until hopefully it stands up. But if not don't be too upset. Good luck with your baby! |
:welcome4: Looking forward to seeing pictures of Pebbles. She sounds loved. I would recommend you read some of the threads in Yorkie Health & Diet about food and also check out the Training thread - but you do need to show her that you are the leader of the pack. I would recommend comparing your food at www.dogfoodanalysis.com Glad to have you here on yt! |
I was just looking at the ingredients in Proplan Small Breed. It is not a very good food at all. I like to avoid corn if possible because it is an allergen that quite a few dogs have problems with. It also contains turkey by-product which isn't too appetizing. I also see animal digest and animal fat. Please be careful when they don't name the animal. It could be anything. |
