Bully stick nubs? I've been giving Bitsy Bully Sticks and she loves em! Usually, when the sticks get to be an inch, I throw em out because I'm afraid she'll choke on it. Last night, I gave her her bully stick and it was just a little over an inch. I figured I'll take it away from her when it gets a little smaller. Well, I completely forgot about it, and a few hours later, I went to grab it from her and couldn't find it! I think she ate the whole thing! How many of you give your babies the whole thing or do you take it away when the sticks get to be too short? I'm very paranoid she'll choke on it! |
I normally take them away when they get to be close to only an inch long. But I've forgotten too before and Lacy has eaten the last piece and we haven't had any problems yet. Bully stix are very digestible so she should be fine. I worry more about a choking hazard with a small piece than it not passing through the system |
I also take them away when they get down to about an inch,Tia has a habit of chewing up until soft a long section of the sticks and then trying to swallow the length whole. I dont know how many times I have had to put my fingers down her throat to retrieve something she is chocking on! YIIIIICKS! ...that dog has given me more gray hair I tell ya! So I supervise them when they have chews of any kind. Eileen |
Bully sticks are a big hit at our house...but never left out when they are all alone. So far, as long as they all get one...they are fine. I'm sorry that you are having a problem. I think putting them in different areas as long as you can still see them would work. |
......yeah, when it gets down to the nub I toss them too..........and I'll replace it w a quick little treat if they are gnawing on it at the time....my male still hasn't learned "leave it" and wants to hold on to anything that's in his mouth and will swallow it whole if I try to take it away so w him I offer him a treat first then take it away and replace it w another treat or chew or toy........ |
I toss them too when they are an inch or inch and a half. I keep them in the freezer, and give him a new one that is cold. Maxwell is 10 months, still trying to get rid of his baby teeth and he likes them cold. Plus, if they sit around the house on the floor too long, I swear they start to smell. |
