How much should puppy be drinking? eating? We have had Logan for two days now. My only experience with a puppy occurred six years ago, and that experience was so different from this one. So I'm not sure if what we are experiencing this time is normal or not. Logan is 11 weeks old and weighs 1.55 pounds. He ate three times yesterday but each time he ate only about 3-4 pieces of Solid Gold kibble. He drank water only 2 times. He peed and pooped most times I took him outside. Today is another story. He pooped in his crate last night even though I took him out every four hours. He has not had any water to drink since last night! I keep putting him before the water bowl, and he refuses to drink. He ate about 3 pieces of kibble about 2.5 hours ago. He doesn't want anymore food. I have been keeping him in his crate except to take him outside every hour to potty. He is so low to the ground that I cannot tell if he is peeing. He has not pooped yet. He just wants to sit in the grass, not potty. Is this normal? When do I worry about his lack of water? I can't force him to drink, but shouldn't he be thirsty by now? |
Logan did finally eat and drink something - just a little. His gums are nice and pink. I read that is an indication that the blood sugar level is OK. That's a relief. I feel like a new mother with her first baby. Housetraining tips would be great. I didn't mean to leave the impression in another post that I expect Logan to be housetrained in a day or two or even a week or so. I know it takes time. I'm confused on whether I should keep him in his crate during the day and take him out to potty and eat or if I should create a small area with a play pen that includes his crate, water, food, toys, and newspaper. What have you had success with? |
we got layla during the summer so i was able to be home with her all day every day. So she was not crated during the day... but out we went after every nap, meal, drink or play time. i used a key phrase- hurry up- and to this day she knows if i say hurry up it means we are outside to pee and not play. I crated her at night which worked great for us. the space was just large enough for her to lay in and she would wake me up to pee... she started using this low growl, as opposed to a cry, and i could distinguish between.. i need to pee.... from i want out because i dont' want to be in here :p we were up at least once a night up until around 8 months. now she sleeps through and just LOVES HER CRATE! you might also attach a bell to the front door (or whichever you use) and ring it each time you go out.. eventually she will do it on her own.. and remember.. praise praise praise... a year and half later we still have a huge party whenever Layla poops outside.... treats and love and lots of Good Girls... we sounds like complete nuts but she loves it :) |

... Congrats on ur Furbaby .... Don't worry too much - lol (yeah right ) - mine did the same thing. She ate a little and that was it ... she had to get used to the new place and us. I took her outside every 2 hr. for 4 Weeks and then streched it to 4 hr. and so on. Have fun with ur Baby .....:) |
