Heart Worms Even though Yorkies are inside dogs, is it likely for them to get heartworms? Do I need to get medicine for it? We gave Bert a 7 in 1 shot, but I'm not sure that it covered heart worms. I'm concerned..... |
Yes it is important...Maximus is an indoor dog but we were advised by the vet on the first visit that he will begin taking the heartworm pill after his vaccinations and he will have to take them 1x a month for the rest of his life....it cost me 35.00 for a year supply..I beleive and from what the vet told me that it is nothing compared to the cost of curing heartworm...the pill the vet gave me is called Interceptor |
Our vet put Magic and Sailor on heartworm medicine about 6 months old...they take it once a month and it doesn't bother them at all!! |
All in one I live in SoCal and boy have we had the mosquitos. Mosquitos can infect your pup with heartworm. I guess we have more this year due to all the rain we had this year 36+ inches folks. I have my boys on Revolution. It takes care of heartworm, fleas, ticks, mites and mange. No need for anything but one application a month and it takes care of it all. Costs about $10 per month per dog. I have had them on it sonce they were over 2.5 pounds and I am very pleased with this product. |
We gave Bert a 7 in 1 shot, but I'm not sure that it covered heart worms. I'm concerned..... For future reference, research the advisability of giving these toy Yorkies (or any toy breed) a shot with Lepto and corona. In our area Lepto is ommitted from the vaccine for these dogs...Corona as well..Only given in areas where the diseases have been diagnosed |

On the day of his last shots, the vet put Linus on heartworm medication. It's better to be safe than sorry. He's on Heartguard (so is Lucy) and it is so easy to give him because it's like a little soft treat! |
Thanks a lot I guess we've got to get him some medicine. |
