Help...Leo had shots...now he is "yelping"... Can anyone tell me if it is normal for a dog to be "yelping" when you pick him up, after shots? Has anyone else had this happen? Leo had his last round of puppy shots yesterday morning. He was fine all day! But last night he started "yelping" when we pick him up. When I called the vet (this morning), they say it is normal and it could go on for up to 2 days. What do you all think? Should I be worried? |
That is normal |
Yes, you are best leaving him be for 24 to 48 hours, mine has his Rabies booster yesterday and is yelping if I otuch him near the injection. Just leave him be and if he does not eat and lies around dont worry, it will pass in 24 to 48 hours.:D |
It's normal at the injection site and it will be ok after a while. You also might find a knot at the injection site as well and that is common. When I give Rabies shots at 1 year of age I give baby benadryl before and after the rabies shot in case there were to be a reaction from the rabies shots. Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
Thank you guys for responding so quickly!! :angel2dl: I knew my new YF friends would have an answer. I am so relieved... I guess I will just let him rest today. |

Can this be done with younger puppies? My Gizmo is three months old and in need of his last round of puppy shots. And, I so worry about a reaction. |
Lol... I'm sorry it's not funny. Sarge got his 2nd round last weekend and he was doing this. It made me a NERVOUS WRECK! I thought they hit a nerve or something. He was fine after couple days tho. They give those little babies the same dose the give a St. Bernard, so it gets a little sore for them. Don't worry, He'll be ok. |
