Renaming a dog? When people rename a dog, how does the pet react? I got my dog at 2 years old. I left his name how I got him. I don't want to insult anyone that has renamed their dog, but I was just curious and wanted to hear stories. Do they pick it up fast or does it take a long time? |

It did not take her long at all. Part of it might be because the two names sound alittle alike. She is the love of my life! Kate |
Our 10-year-old rescue was named "Cuddles." I'm a guy, and while I'm secure enough in my manhood to own a 4-pound Yorkie, I'm not THAT secure. I changed his name to Jack, as in Jack Daniels, before I even got him home. For the first few weeks, we called him Jack-Cuddles, then we dropped the Cuddles. He never seemed to struggle with it. |

we got lucy at 3 years old and her name was fluffy, we just started to call her lucy and when she came to us we gave her a treat. it only took a week or so. her old owners kids called her fluffy for a long time after we changed her name but now call her lucy as she wont come to fluffy to often. |
I never thought of a stray. I guess if you don't know their name obviously you have to name the pup. I guess cause I've had my little guy for soo long. I think you couldn't possibly change his name. |
When Frimousse arrived at my home , the only name she knew was " The Bitch " . I immediately started to name her Frimousse . At first , she was looking at me with a strange look but now as soon as she hear " Frimousse ". She stop what she is doing and run to me . |
I renamed by Biewer and he knew his new days within a week. I always used it with a lot of praise. |
I think they pick up very quickly. I have 3 dogs and when I call one the other two come but not the one I called, or they all come. SO I think they respond quickly to a name change |
i got "NaNa" when she was 7 months old, i had her name picked out before i got her "LoLa" .. she seemed to pick it up right away |
Chip's rescue name was Charlie-Wolf, way too long and to me sounded strange. My sister asked me to come up with a new name for him. I figured he was used to the "Ch" sound from being called Charlie, so I came up with chip, chewy, and another one I forgot. When she brought him home, I said he looks like a "Chip" he immediately resonded to the name so that was it. |
I got Sugar when he was 17 months and renamed him. His original name was Scooter and I don't think he even noticed I changed his name. I read a lot on the subject here first because I was concerned but many people have renamed a dog with no problem at all. |
