Baby Aspirin
 
I've posted before about Finnigen being neutered on Friday. Well he has been a big baby (like most men) since. He won't let me out of his site and is usually on my lap resting. He walks a foot then stops and rests. His incision site looks the same ... no better no worse... I think he is still really sore. I want to give him baby aspirin but I'm not sure how much... He's 4 lbs so I think it's about 1/4 tab. I don't want to bother the vets office on a sunday, also I don't know if they're a charge for a phone call (that may sound naive but this is my first puppy and I was really surprised to learn I pay $25 everytime I take him in even if he's healthy).

Hopefully one of the breeders will respond to your question quickly. I would like to know also if baby aspirin is safe. I know that Pepto Bismol is.

Our vet told us to give Magic 1/4 a tablet of baby aspirin when she was sick not too long ago...we never gave it to her as she never acted in that much pain but I do know that is the correct amount for her, and she is around 4lbs as well...

Asprin "thins" the blood and unless prescribed by a vet should not be given pre or post an operation.

Thanks... I ended up calling the vet and yep 1/4 baby aspirin every 4-5 hours as needed... just as I suspected. She also told me to put some a thin layer of zinc cream (the baby diaper rash cream) around the incision... she said more often than not it's not painful just uncomfortable and itchy. I think that will help heal it as well. I put the cream on and he seems more comfortable, I haven't given him any aspirin yet, it's Sunday and there's no pharmacy's open (duh) the baby aspirin is locked up in the pharmacy counter here in Canada.

If he isn't improving by tomorrow I'll go buy some.

The vet and I also discussed how I think he's really just being a man about it and milking it for all it's worth. He now knows that mommy is going to baby him and let him sleep in the playpen, and carry him everywhere... you should see him the second I sit down he's beside me whimpering to get in my lap.... it's pathetic, but cute!

JMO but im not too sure about using the diaper rash cream on an insision. Diaper Rash cream is to lock wetness out so it seals up the area and it doesn't get to breathe really well. I would think that this would make it heal slower.
