We brought our puppy home today. Help! Logan is almost 11 weeks old, and the vet/breeder believed he was ready to go to his permanent home. They are keeping the female in the litter because she is not eating and weighs only 1 pound. Logan weighs 1.55 lbs. When I first brought him home, he wanted to explore. I took him outside to potty, but he didn't go. I tried to get him to eat and drink something, but he wouldn't. I put him in his crate, but he didn't want to be there. So I held him for awhile, and he calmed down and went to sleep. Now he's napping in his crate. He got shots before we left, so he may be feeling a little poorly from that. Question: how do I get him to eat? I've heard it's normal for puppies to not eat well when they first go to their new homes. But I'm afraid if he doesn't eat something soon, he's going to get sick. The vet said to call him if Logan goes 24 hours without eating. Any advice for a new Yorkie owner is greatly appreciated! P.S. I do have Nutri-Cal on hand. He had some this morning with the aspiren the vet gave him before he got his shots. |
the same thing happened with Bella when i first got her...my vet told us to feed her some chicken or beef baby food and gradually mix some soft kibble bites and nutrical into it to wean her off of it...she LOVED the baby food and went for it right away! Good Luck to you and your lil fur butt! |

We brought our puppy home today. Help? I bet he is not eating because of the shots. I bought a real baby playpen for Tricksie and put a bed in it along with pee pads. She would never go potty outside, always on the hunt for something. She a year old now and I have a few pee pads around the house and she always uses them. I have done this many times for sick babies, cook white rice in low sodium chicken broth, the Vet told me this. Good Luck, you and he will do just fine. |
I agree with the others!! Those shots sometimes really throw them for a loop and the new home and all. Were they feeding him solid and wet food? If not then just wet his solid food with a little chicken broth low sodium and see if that entices him. Otherwise, I think once he settles in and the shots wear off he will be fine. Congrats. |
When Jewels was little and would not eat I fed her Gerber meat sticks and she would always eat those |

Good luck with your new little one! Lauren |
I agree with the rest. He needs time to adjust and giving him some food he'll enjoy should help a lot. |
