Times a day a Dog Walker should visit??? Hi, I am going to be going out of town, and I have contracted with a Dog Walker to come to my home, and let my babies outside. They are all inside dogs, but go out into our fenced yard to play. They will have free roam of the house, all of them, and my puppy, (1 1/2 yrs old) will also have a Pee Pad as well. The dog walker is charging $15 per visit. I KNOW I would love to have her come 10 times a day to let the dogs out, but that is just not feasible. By the way, we have 1 Golden Retriever, 1 Sheltie, and 3 Yorkies. My mom and I are having an arguement over this, soooooo PLEASE let me know what you think! Thanks! |
The longer you will be out of town, the more they need to come each day since the dogs will get lonely. Atleast they have each other though. If all of your Yorkies don't use pee pads I would have them come atleast 4 times a day. |
Does your mom live close enough where she could come over several times a day? Could you maybe find someone who doesn't charge $15.00 a time? Do you know anyone who could stay in your home (free boarding) to take care of them? |
We did that when John was in the hospital. We found a good friend (college student) and had her house sit. She had access to cable, computer, washer and dryer, my kitchen, etc... in exchange for puppy sitting. It worked out great for us, and she had a few days without roommates. Plus, she got to play with a yorkie puppy! Who could ask for more than that? :D In addition, our pet walker service also has a flat daily rate that is cheaper and includes four visits (I think), so you might ask. |
Based on the # of dogs, they usually want $25 and up PER VISIT! My Mom lives w/ me, in a separate house, and has 2 of the Yorkies, and she is going to be away too. My cousin was supposed to stay here, and he bailed. I also offered to pay my SIL as she is going to be here that week, and she declined, and offered to pay them both $100 a day for their time, and they both declined! This is a friend of my Neighbor, and I have offered her $15 a walk, and she said OK....I don't know....it isn't even WALKING the dogs, just letting them all out to play in the fenced yard! I am not sure why people are asking soooooooo much $$?!?!?! |
I think they need to go out twice a day. Do you have time to find another person before you leave? If they came twice a day that is only $30.00 per day. That is much cheaper than boarding. I hope you find someone who you are comfortable with. Maybe call the humane society or some local groomers and vets for references on pet sitters. |
They need to be let out at least 4 times a day and she should stay for a while to play with them and show them some affection too. Also even though for whatever reason I don't know they are inside dogs while you are away they would benefit from real walks even more because if they are physically tired from a proper walk then they won't fret so much about you not being there. |

Also, they are inside dogs because I live in FL, and the heat would be unbearable for them, if they were outside dogs, and I would NEVER do that to my babies. I keep them in my home with myself and my family and take them out in the fenced yard to run and play several times during the day, when I am home. I am leaving for ONE night, and wanted to know how many times, I should have someone come to let them outside to play. Thanks! |
How long will you be gone? |
For this trip.....1 night. Usually it would be for MAYBE 7 days at the MOST. We were debating between 3 and 4 walks. The problem is that we have those HUGE poisonous frogs in this area, and I am afraid to have a walker, take my dogs out at night, due to the # of frogs in our area and my dogs habit to go after them. So the last visit in the evening has to be no later than 8:00 p.m. I WILL put Pee Pads out and available for all the Yorkies as well. |
