my little noway yorkie my little noway went to heaven a year ago and it is still too hard to talk about him.that's why i haven't been on the forum.everyone with a yorkie be sure tocheck often for a collasping trachea. it is a horrible way to lose your beloved pet. |
I'm so sorry for you loss. Prayers coming to console you. |
I am really sorry for your loss. :( When you are ready, to talk about anything, we will be here. |
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your little Noway. My last Yorkie, Gracie, died at 6 1/2 of a severely collapsed trachea. Her last year was not a good one. I know what you mean. I make sure they never have collars on, try to keep the weight off and have the vet check every year. I hope one day you can get another one. I now have 2 and a pom she is 10 1/2 and has the CT now too. |
I'm so sorry for you. I can only imagine how devastated I'd be if I lost Max. I hope you will give another wonderful Yorkie a wonderful home and all the love you still have, once you can find it in your heart to do so. Bless you and may little Noway rest in peace. I'm sure he's up there somewhere looking down on you and wagging his little tail. |
my noway I thank all of you for your kind words and support. It means a lot to me. I shall get back with you when I am able to write and tell you about my darling noway. jan windrow |
I'm glad you came back to pass on the warning. Maybe another Yorkie will live because of your information. In fact, I'm going to do a little more research myself. Patti, is there a test a vet can do to check on trachea health? |
My vet will put a little pressure on their throat to see if it evokes the cough, also it can show up on Xrays, which all of mine have had for other reasons. My vet checks as sheis the one who treated Gracie when she had it. Maya's was diagnosed this year by an Xray. Quote:

cough sounds like a goose honking. If your yorkie honks when he coughs get him to a vet as soon as possible. Try and get a vet that specializes in toy dogs. There are some treatments that can help. There is no cure for this condition. My vet did all he could. He taught me how to use the nebulizer, loaned me the oxygen bottle and cart and had his medicine compounded to a liquid as we couldn't give him pills. He really worked with us for a year before we lost noway. Donot use plug-in oil warmers or smoke near your yorkie. I pray this will help some yorkie owner, so they won't lose their beloved pet. |

My 5-1/2 yr. old girl was just diagnosed with collasping trachea. It makes me very sad, and I pray she can fight this. It is horrifying to see them honk, and try to breathe. When you find the strength, please post and give us any tips you can. I know this is very painful, but hopefully, we can all learn from this. My condolences. I am so very sorry for your loss. Kate |
