Should I just cut her hair short?? Soleil is 5 months old and has a beautiful coat coming in BUT it knots really easy...when I brush her hair the knots come out in little tufts..since she has been wearing her diapers its knots really badly and its hard to brush it and painful for her. Would it be best to just have it cut really short or is there a way that anyone knows of that will make it easier to brush through it?? I love her coat the way it is and I am sure she would be darling no matter what I just hate hurting her...:( Dawn |
Anyone?? |
Oh my. I hope that you catch someone besides me before we all go to bed!! My puppies will forever be in puppy cuts I'm afraid. I just have a devil of a time combing out knots on a wiggly pooch. I'm so jealous of those of you that have either have the patience for it or the stubborness to never give up, whichever it is for you!! :D |

Do you think she is too young for a puppy cut..will it ruin her hair if I dont let it grow out first?? Or is that a dumb question..lol Dawn |
when she was a pup i just cut off the knots.. and soon they never came back.. she used to knot so easily esp after wearing clothes but i cut them off and they didnt come back... |
These knots are like tufts that just pull off with a little work and there are soooo many little ones that if I cut them off I might as well get her groomed short..but her hair is REALLY thick so i have to brush backwards to get to all the wee little knots..it takes me about a 1/2 hour twice a day to get them all..tonight she hid from me awwwww...she used to run to me but since the diapers have been making her knottier she had to hide from Momma..poor sweetie pie.. Do you you think human spray in conditioner would be safe for her skin? I have some really nice stuff for my thick hair but dont want to cause her any skin irritations.. Dawn |
hmm then i suggest maybe getting her hair shot? it'll save u so much time.. and yeah i cut off all princess's and kept it short.. she had really thick hair and now its thinner, which i like better because its easier to maintain :) |
Princess is a doll..she reminds me of my friends yorkie who I am totally in loooove with!! Dawn |

I don't think anyone is too young for a puppy cut OR too old!! ;) There was a thread before on using spray in detangler for babies and several people did (the tear free ones for babies). So I got one, it did help. |

The top of her head it reaaaaaaaaaaaaally soft..and silky too..I think its just the puppy hair that is a bit fluffy and unruley lol.. Dawn |
I use a high quality detangler when I want my babies to have longer coats but living in the Caribbean I just think it''s easier on them to keep them in puppy cuts but for some reason just like humans, fur and nails grow 10 times as fast here (must be the sun or the salt air or something) so I have to have mine groomed and cut far more often than when I had a yorkie in the States. Now that princess is preggers I'm taking her in for her shortest cut yet just to keep everything easy for her. I too am envious of people who can maintain the full coat for a yorkie, maybe some day I'll be able to but not unless I leave the heat of the Caribbean behind. |
I know how you feel, my Benjamin has a really really thick coat that matts easily and I keep debating wether or not to cut it short but I don't think I can bare to! So right now i'm just brushing him 3 times a day and using good conditioners and detanglers. Its alot of work but his coat is just so nice. |
