Long coats on yorkies Do you guys have any tips on how to grow a yorkie into a long coat without it looking like a disaster. Last year when I tried it his face just wound up looking silly and his hair on his head/face never got long enough for the bows or rubber bands to stay in (plus he hates them) Do you have to put a lot of products in the hair to keep it looking good and staying down on their nose/face? Are your dogs able to go outside and still be dogs even with a long coat? I would really LOVE for paddy to have a full yorkie coat someday. The last time he went to the groomer I only had him trim his face so that I can try to grow the rest of his body long since the face gives me the most trouble. But I would still want to take paddy for walks outside and let him run around and play like a real dog too. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! |
I keep mine in full coat and they run around and play, get leaves stuck in them all the time. It is alot more work but it is worth it. The thing I hate is my girl I dress up and her hair gets snarly we both hate that but oh well she still wears clothes and we still brush it out. |
I keep my females hair long and she plays just as hard as any other dog. It is more work, but I just love it so much. I find that you have to wash and brush it more. A good conditioning shampoo is a must and if you can a good conditioner. I have tried the natural shampoo that they recomend on here a lot and I find that I like my dog shampoo so much more. It conditions better not to mention, smells better. I use LaPooch. If you google it you will find it. It is great and then I use a detangler that I just get at the grocery store for kids. It works great and your furbaby is not having to deal with all those tangles you have after the bath. About keeping all the hair in the ponytail, I am still trying to figure that one out myself. Good luck and I hope that you get some good responses. |

Right now I use a dog shampoo and conditioner that keep his hair nice and soft and easier to comb and I do a nightly ritual of ear cleaning, and hair brushing. I think if his hair actually got longer so that it would stay in the ponytail better and not have to be as tight or pointing forward maybe he would like it. But maybe thats just wishful thinking lol. |
