I need help please I purchased a carrier for Mia and she hates it she goes crazy and starts growling, its going to get cold here in NYC and I dont want her to be stuck at home in the cold. Does anyone have any advise on how I can make her feel confortable in the carrier? Its really roomy I dont know why she doesnt like it. She is 8 months. TIA Lily |
What type of carrier is it? Purse style or roomier? Would using treats help? I would think the more you use it the more she would get used to it.. of course i've not come accross this issue yet so I really have no clue |
Give her time.. Mean while ..put some of your clothes with your smell on them inside with her..Make sure it is something you do not care if it gets destoryed Because she may chew them up. Leave some soft music on..or a clock that has a loud tic toc sound..Sometimes that helps..These are the tricks I did with my puppies to help them get through changes.. Good luck.. |
I gave Slade lots of treats everytime I put him in. Just start with a minute or two then build up to greater lengths |
Is she able to see out of the carrier? That might make her feel more comfortable. The ones that have a mesh panel are nice. I love the ones that they can poke their heads out of, but you have to make sure they have a safety strap to attach to their collar so they can't jump out. You just have to take it slow with her until she gets used to it. |
She can see in it and it does have the opening and the safety collar attachment. I am going to try everyday until she feels comfortable. |
Maxwell would bust out of soft carriers with zippers. But now he sleeps in two hard crates, one looks like an end table and the second is a small hard carrier for car trips. But at first he was a maniac Houdini. Would bust the zippers on 3 different crate/carriers. I started putting my used t-shirts in there (after my exercise class - ha ha). He would use it to sleep on, and I think it helped a lot. I've tried lots of pads and cushions and it turns out he likes the donut bed the best inside the carrier. Took trial and error. He's 10 months. |
