Her hairs not growing ... Not sure why! Hi Everyone, My baby, Lilly, is 6 months old. She's such a love, I couldn't imagine life without her. I'm wondering why her hair hasn't really grown that long. I've been looking forward to the long traditional yorkie hair. And I've always thought her hair would be nice and silk like and it's kind of more on the course side. I purchased her local and I have her papers that prove she's a pure breed. Could anyone out there tell me why her hairs not growing???? |
Hello and welcome to YT! You might just have a slow coat grower. Riley is that way. She turned one year old this week but her coat is still only halfway to the ground (only been trimmed once). It's very different from Penny's. I think someone told me here that true silk coats grow slower. Do you use any supplements? There's great info on this site for products that might help with her coat growth. Omega3 helped Riley's coat after a bout of leather ear. |
No, I haven't used any supplements for her. I guess I never even thought about it! Omega3 huh? ... I'm going to look into it. By the way, what's leather ear??? Boy oh boy, am I a rookie or what .... LOL |
Bella's hair seems to be taking forever to grow, she isn't very old yet tho so I figure i'm just impatient. Are you in NY???? If you are we are probably neighbors!!! I live in Liverpool |
I just seen your zipcode in your profile.. you are my neighbor! I live off of Longbranch rd |
Yes, I do live in Liverpool, NY. I live in Pinegate North, off Soule Rd. Where do you live? I was thinking I was being a bit impatient but I ran into someone last weekend who had a female and was a month younger than Lilly and her hair was longer. So, that got me thinking maybe something was wrong! |
Too funny ... it takes the World Wide Web to find local people! I want Lilly to have puppies when she gets older and find that all the yorkies I've run into around Liverpool are females ... Are you going to let Bella have pups? |
yorkies i have 8 yorkies and 9 babies....2 of mine were the same way and now they have beautiful long hair...i have heard and seen the ones who start off slow...end up with and nice coat later on...it could take 3 years to get there...but it's worth the wait.......i also have females that when they are stressed...they have lost some of there hair before....good luck it's comming!!! |
I'm so glad to hear that ... it's my "worry wort" side of me! I can't wait to see her when her hair is completely in! |
You might try some Missing Link in her food. It sure seems to make Jake's coat grow like crazy! |
Bella is going to be to tiny to breed, I wasn't intending on it to begin with tho. I'm getting a female biewer come January and as much as I would have loved to breed them I just can't see myself doing it and working full time, way to much work. I have Bella in puppy classes at Petsmart on 31 on Sundays and there is a little boy yorkie, very tiny also. He is about 18wks old now I think, his name is Willie and he is adorable. I of course have no clue if his Mom is planning on using him as a stud dog but I could ask around if your looking for some breeding connections. Maybe I should get her the web addie for YT and we could all end up having a YT meetup in CNY some day :-) I would love to keep in touch with someone local that also has a yorkie... pm me and we can exchange email addresses if you would like |
I'm not very versed on YorkieTalk website ... so, please bare with me! What does "pm me" mean. Yes, I would love to talk more. I may show up on Sunday to check things out! What time is the class? Petsmart is my favorite, I love bringing Lilly there! |
Where would I be able to find this Missing Link stuff. I assume it's a supplement???? |
pm means private message, I'll make it easy on you my email address is Jacklynn70@verizon.net Puppy class is at 2:00-3:00 and they have missing link at petsmart, last time I seen it it was on the end cap of the ilse with the collars (on the side with the dog beds) |
Thanks Jackie, I will send you a message so you'll have my email address. |

Hi We are having the same problem with our puppy Sophie. Her hair has grown on her face and legs but her body is growing at a much slower rate. Is there specific supplements for hair growth? Send some pictures of your puppy and I will do the same. Thanks |
Some yorkies hair doesnt grow like others. I have been letting My Jewels hair grow for 3 yrs and you would think it would be it the floor but it is medium long. Ive only been letting Chachis grow for a yr and His is about as long as hers |
It takes 2-3 years for their hair to get long like what you've seen..and most of the people that have them like that, wrap their hair(mostly ones showing them) |
coat Your Yorkie looks to have a wiry coat in texture...impossible to get any length on them, the hair breaks off before it grows..but they are sure easy to keep groomed..self-grooming Yorkies..LOL |
The coat thing to me is so weird my oldest furbaby is seventeen months old and her hair is half way to the ground and it has not been cut, but my other girl Chloe is six months old and her coat is almost to the ground and three times as thick...LOL I have five and all of there coats are way different but I do belive that in time (up to three years) her coat will be where it needs to be:) hang in there:p |
2 Attachment(s) I also have a 6 month old baby Foxxy, who's hair hasn't grown much at all...It feels really soft though. There's a little hair on her legs and belly and under her neck but her back is kinda straight, soft & silky but straight...all her bros & sis's had the more thick, wavy, hair longer than hers....I think I'll try the supplements also and see if that helps...if not, I guess our babies will just have the forever Puppy Cut!!! :D My older furbaby Diva has more of a cottony coat and has managed to grow quite well so I'm hoping the same for Foxxy.... Here is a pic of my baby Yolanda |
3 Attachment(s) I think your right that its a wirey coat. Its very fine hair as well |
