hi! im new at yorkietalk. hi everyone:) , i got my babie "youji" almost 3 mths already. i need some help about potty train. he already trained to pee on the weewee pad, but i dont know why he doesnt like to go poo on the weewee pad also, he poo everywhere, he likes to hide somewhere people can not see him to finish his business. anyone have any idea that i can train him to poo on the weewee pad also. btw, i plan to get him neutered, what's the best age to do it? he's almost 5mths. thx!! |
I don't really have any experience with potty pads. But maybe you could kindof put one in a private area behind something so he feels like he has some privacy. As for neutering, you can do it now. 16 weeks and 2lbs is about the earliest a vet will do the surgery, although there are some that still like to wait until 6 months. I'd go ahead and give your vet a call and schedule the surgery within the next month |
welcome to yorkietalk |
Welcome to Yorkie talk! And I wish you goodluck for the potty training! I think most of all you should emphasise he is doing something really good when he is peeing on the wee wee pad so that he'll poo there as well! Good luck! |
Welcome to YT. My .02: Lots of times they hide and poop when they've been scolded for pooping. They think it's wrong to have to poop any time. Instead, praise when they get it right and ignore it unless you catch them in the act. If you catch them in the act, give them a firm no and take them to the place you want them to go. |
Welcome to YT!!! Pooping on the pad is something Vinnie would do on occasion but never really got the hang of, no matter how much we praised and we never scolded when he went elsewhere we did the firm "no" and took him to the pad. |
You could try picking up an accident & putting it on the pad. That way he sees where poo is really supposed to go. Watching him like a hawk for his potty signs would be helpful too. When Raja has to poo he runs around in a tight little circle really fast - like he's trying to run it out lol :p so if your baby has a signal, when he starts doing it rush him to the pad. |
Hi! and welcome to YT. My Bengi didn't like to poop in the pads at first either; he would pee but not poop. It took some time, each time I caught him going somewhere else, I would say No! and take him to the pad. Also, try to keep a dry pad when you know it's time for him to go, mine didn't like to go there when it was wet. Make sure the pad is placed in a spot where he's comfortable going. Before I have it by the fridge and he was afraid of it when it was starting to make a sound, so he didn't want to poop there as it requires "concetration" and he coudn't because he was scared. About the neutering, talk to your vet, but it is better to have it done at 6 months, that's before sexual maturity. If he gets neutered then, you'll have less problems with marking and humping. |
Welcome to YT. You can have him neutered now, but I can't help you much with the potty training. |
he is ready for a neutering now, and good luck with the training ... mine like their privacy when they poop-.... |
Welcome to YT!!! |
I have a little guy, Leo, who is 15 weeks. So, we are working on the same thing. He does very well with peeing on the pad, but we still have to watch for him to have to go poop. I try and keep him confined to the room with the pad when it "time" for him to poop. He usually poops first thing in the morning and after dinner. So at these times I keep him gated in the family room and watch for his "signal". Which is usually a wild running around in circles...almost like he can't find where he is suppose to go. When I see this I know that it is time. I then remind him where to go...I just tell him no,no, no when looks else where to go. In the beginning I had to carry him over to the pad. Then, I give him a special treat. Anytime he does has an accident, it is a reminder to me that I wasn't keeping a close enough eye on him. |
Welcome to YT!! You are in Daily City!!! I'm San Mateo!! Maybe some day we can meet!!! (You should consider joining MeetUp Yorkie SF. It is a great group of people with tons of yorkies!!) Anyhow, My Momiji didn't get the poop on the pad for a while, too. but patience paid off and she knows now. Be patience, praise a lot, confind in small area until he understand where to poop, I can't think of anything else at this moment!! Good luck and can't wait to see picture of Youji!!! (Japanese name??) |

As for neutering, I'd wait till he was about 8 or 9 months old so his testosterone can develope first. Otherwise he could be too "spindly". |
