Those who have spayed girls How old was your pup when she had surgery and how much did she weigh? I will be asking my vet next visit what she recommends but i'm wondering if there is a certain weight that is more optimal, like for instance if Bella only weighs 2.5lbs at 6months would it be best to weight a bit to see if she gains and then have it done. I have had 3 large breed dogs spayed and never felt nearly as nervous about it as I do thinking about Bella and Chloe being done. *Chloe is a 19wk old Boston terrier who is tiny for the breed. |
My Stella was around 6 months old and weighed around 4 1/2 lbs. |
Meeka was fixed at about 5 1/2 months and was 2.2 pounds, she is only 2.5 pounds now so it was not like if I would have waited she would have gotten any bigger. |
Lily was 6 months and 2.5 lbs. I was concerned that she was too small, but the vet put me at ease and all went well, she was back to herself the next day. |
Izzy was 5 months at only weighed 2.3 ounces at the time - I truly trust my vet and he has the laser procedure which is less pain, etc., and he is well known in publications, etc., (he has done spaying on mice:eek: ), so I was not worried and Izzy was back to her old self the next day. </IMG> |
Chloe was b/w 10-11 months old and weigh around 6 to 6/5 lbs when she got spayed.....the surgery went really well and she went back to her normal self the next day! |
Jewels was 6 mos and 4 lbs |
Laney (my pit mix) was 4 months old and only 3 lbs. She was tiny at the time. All the other female dogs I've had done were larger breeds and done at 4 mnths, 8+ lbs. |
Dior was 6 months between 4 and 5 lbs. She did excellent and was her old self the next morning.:) |
Gracie was 6 mos 6lbs, and Katie was 6mos 3lbs. |
Penny will be 7 months and 5.2 pounds |
Gracie was 6 months and about 5 1/2 lbs. |
Autumn was 6 1/2 months when she was spayed and weighed 4.2lbs! |
Misha was 2.2 lbs at 4 months. I waited until all of Pipers teeth to come in before I had her done, so they could remove what baby teeth didn't fall out. Misha never lost her canines, so I had to bring her back in at 7 months to have them removed. Had I know not all small dogs loose all their teeth, I would have waited on Misha so she wouldn't have had to go under twice. The vet didn't tell me about this. So I paid for 2 full surgeries, plus taking the chance of her having 2 surgeries. Don't put them under twice if you don't have to. |
Roxie was spayed at 7 months and she weighed a little over 3lbs |
i dont have any females just wanted to wish you luck |
I had Lulu spayed at 7 months and 2.5lbs. She did just fine. |
Daisy was 6 months and like 4-5 pounds. Jersey was spayed at 6.5 months and weighed 2.6, her pre-op bloodwork came back perfect and she did great with the spay and her baby teeth removed. |
Lolita was 14 months and 2.5 pounds. I was told that she should be spayed around 6 months...but she was just too tiny and I was a nervous wreck. She then went into heat at about a year and I rationalized that if her body was mature enough to go through a heat cycle, she was mature enough to get through a surgery successfully....but I was still a nervous wreck. Everything went well, but I am glad I waited. |
I waited till rosi was 7 mo. old and weight 3.7 pounds ! |
Spay info This is my first post here. I don't have a Yorkie, but my daughter does. I have Mini Schnauzer puppies(girls). She had Maya spayed after her first heat and it seem to have worked out pretty well. I think she was around a year old. My little girls are 7 months and have not come into heat. I am going to have them spayed as well, but I am looking into the minimal invasive type of surgery. I will give you some info that I found on the internet about spaying and the surgery for you to read. Some of it is kinda graphic,so be prepared. Here are some links that people might find beneficial or interesting.>The last one is kinda graphic, David http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongT...uterInDogs.pdf http://www.vet.uga.edu/mis/index.php http://www.mvma.org/Proceedings/SAI/Friday/SAIFri2.htm http://www.vet.uga.edu/PR/archive/2001_spring.pdf http://www.metzgeranimal.com/JanFeb_Kees_pgs38-41.pdf |
