$700 for dog training...anyone else heard of something like this? Maybe I am naive. More and more lately I am interested in having better trained dogs. With 3 of them I need to be able to control them and have them listen to me better than they do. I want to have people over to my house and not have dogs barking from the other room or trying to jump on my guests. I dont want to have to get up in the middle of the night to take a 4 yr old dog outside because they cant hold it. So all of that said...I went to a demonstation of a dog training at a local company. I have to say it was really impressive. The trainer had this beautiful Doberman who was the best trained dog I have ever seen...then he brought out the price list...I was stunned. The cheapest class was $700 for simple obedience classes...they ranged up to $3500. What kind of people can pay that for dog classes? Laura |
Wow - for those prices it better be for in-home personal sessions, not a class! That's crazy! I paid like $120 for a 7 week basic obedience class. I think Petsmart normally charges about $100. So I'd say those prices are more average for a CLASS. For that price you can get a trainer to actually come to your house and train your dogs individually |
Training Come to Mexico! My trainer comes to me and charges $5 per session. He uses only positive reinforcement tecniques. He normaly works with only large, dogs (his Golden is both show andobedience champon) but made an exception with mine when he saw how bright Yorkies are. |
Training Come to southern Mexico. My trainer charges $5 per session and comes to my home or store. His Golden is both a show and obedience champion. The trainer usually doesn't work with small dogs. After he saw how bright Yorkies are, he made an exception for mine. (There are only 2 Y's more in my town.) |
Is he the Dog Whisperer? :-) |
Wow that is crazy...I think that's more than my dad paid to have a trainer come to his house and conduct private training sessions with his 2 Golden Retreivers. Lucy was enrolled in an 8-9 week training class that was only $125 and Petsmart only charges I think $109. That guy better be a miracle worker to be charging that much money. Especially since in most training classes it's you working wiht your dog with instructions from the trainer. It's a lot of time at home working with your dog that yields results. |
That's crazy - Izzy has been to two puppy training sessions one was 6 weeks @$125 and one 4 week @$95. Our trainer just increased his prices but even still - Izzy is enrolled to attend in November CGC (Canine Good Citizen) which is another 6 week class @$135. You might want to check around - that $700 is pretty high. ;) |
My cousin did some class and he paid thousands for like 2 years of lessons.. I deffinatly think he could have done it himself but wow.. his dog was the most obidient dog \I have ever seen! Sadly he passed away a few years ago but my cousin got two new dogs and I think he has done the training himself.. |
Double check if they actually board your dog at their training center, or if they are private lessons. I know of someone that paid $1500 for a two week training session done at their facility. The dog was picked up, boarded at one of the trainers homes, and then dropped off when finished. |
Just to clarify, these are one on one lessons, but not at your house...and they definitely dont board the dog for this amount. If you want them to keep your dog for 3 weeks they will board it and train it for you, only $3500! The $700 lessons were just for 6 weeks of basic obedience. Laura |
 that seems outrageous. I haven't ever paid anyone to train either of mine. Laney (my pittie) is perfectly trained. Slade... not so much  He needs a little firmer hand so I know once i move he will be going to a trainer! i would get him one here but the trainers here SUCk! |
Geeeeez, that's ridiculous!! What is he, the Dog Whisperer or something? |
wow, yeah, that definitely seems a little high... I found someone with EXCELLENT references who comes into your home and works with the individual dogs. It's $299 a dog for a "training until it's done" kind of thing (could be a month, two, etc.), and for a lifetime guarantee (meaning at ANY time during the dogs life if there's ANYTHING it needs work on or training for she will come back to your home at NO extra charge) it's $499. However, if you sign up multiple dogs in your home there's a 50% discount on each additional one. So for two dogs and the lifetime guarantee you would pay around $750...which is about what this guy charges for a BASIC obedience 6 wk course... DEFINITELY look at other options!! |
$117 per session! Holy heck I would hope you get a platinum clicker for that. |
