Having trouble dressing... Does anyone have trouble dressing their yorkie. My newest addition to the family, Marcus Aurelius, does not like to wear clothes. His older brother Bruiser loves to wear clothing. When I put sweaters on him, he prances around and struts his stuff.:D But Marcus doesn't want me to put anything on him. I've had the hardest time finding something that will fit since he's little. I finally lucked out and the juicy hoodie I got fit! But he doesn't like it at all. He keeps pulling his arms out of it after it's on. And he won't move if he has it on. He becomes "dog-a-tonic" lol. Any suggestions of how to make him more comfortable dressing up. As it gets colder, I am worried since he is so little and has thin hair from getting sick. Thanks! |
I don't know how to make it more comfy for him to be dressed, but I know there are other yorkies who dislike being dressed. |
He just needs some time to get used to it, try giving him a snack when you put his clothes on, make him walk to get the snack. After a few he shouldn't have a problem. My little boy Cash did not like clothes either and he was so tiny, well he still is tiny. He loves wearing clothes now, he won't go to the door unless he has something on:rolleyes: :) Good luck and he'll get there:cool: |
Good luck, I have been trying to dress Autumn from the time I got her and she still takes everything off. Down to the bow in her hair. She likes to be naked! |
Good luck, Stella is 9 1/2 months and still hates clothes, even her harness. She's fine outside but when you come in she also goes "dog-a-tonic". |
Yea i have a little battle getting Cody's clothes on. then when their on he wants to chew them. they will get use to it the more you do it |
Some really just don't like it. I'd try soft comfy things w/o sleeves in the beginning.. start off putting them on 2-3 minutes, then taking them off, and treating while the clothes are on. Then keep repeating and adding a minute or two to the time :) |

I have the same problem with Toby. He hates wearing clothes. He will try to bite at them as I put them on. Then looks really uncomfortable once I get them on. He will try to drag himself around the floor trying to get it off. He also does this when I try to put on harnesses as well. He likes going for walks but he hates having to wear harnesses. But at least with the harnesses once we start walking, he's fine. Also he does the same where once he realizes the shirt is not coming off he just sits there and doesn't move. We always joke that if we need him to stay somewhere and sit still all we have to do is put a shirt on him! :) At first I thought it was because they might be a little tight so I have gotten him bigger shirts and still the same thing. Unfortunately, I have resorted to just not dressing him unless its really cold out or for special occasions like the Sunday Bears games because we have a Bears jersey for him. And like already suggested by Princess Tinker when I do put a shirt on him I give him a treat and say good boy. Still doesn't help with the moving thing cause he will still stay in one place. Perhaps you can also try just dressing him occasionally and not all the time and let him get used to it. Good Luck! |
Try getting him to wear it for a little time each day, and give him a treat when you put it on. |
Aaaaw.... I feel your pain, but as much as we want to dress up these adorable babies, some of them will simply not oblige! My Mango, whom I love to smithereens, will just NOT accept anything on her. The only thing she can be persuaded to wear, is a little denim harness vest I found, which she looks adorable in. The only reason my little devil will even deign to wear it, is that she knows it means she's going out. But anything else, forget it. At home she has to be totally nekked. The topknot kinda stays in place but has to be redone at least twice a day.:p My 12 year old senior, Granny Spanky - I could not bear to put anything on her sweet creaking bones...LOL. Lauren:D |
Some like clothes and others don't. You'd think I had a t-bone in my hand when I get the girls clothes out, they go nuts. Windsor on the other hand does not want clothes on. Same thing with their carriers, the girls love to just sit in them, Windsor needs a sedative to get him in a bag. |
he'll get used to it its just something new to him |
