Joey is really fidgeting and can't sit still - worried Please read if you have been reading about Joey's progress.... all of a sudden he isn't sleeping and is really fidgety - he just moves in circles and can't seem to get comfortable. Also, we have been tube feeding him but he did eat some turkey today. He has been home 48 hours from the vet's office and hasn't pooped, but we weren't too concerned because he was just having liquid food fed to him. But now that he has had a little turkey, he still hasn't pooped. Any ideas - do you think something is wrong with him? I feel like everything little thing makes us worry, because of his history. His tail still wags and he seems to want to be with us all the time... |
maybe he needs to poop...and is a little hard for him  |
I agree he might need to poop which is what is making him so fidgety...Magic acts that way sometimes when she is constipated or her stomach is upset...I would defintely kept an eye on him and if he doesn't poop by morning I would take him to the vet to be checked!!! But I am glad that he got to come home and is doing much better...he is a strong little guy and knows how much you love him!!! |
I bet his little tummy hurts and needs to poop, if he doesn't poop soon, I was always told to give my kids Kayro syrup, maybe that would work for him too. |
So glad he is home... If he only ate a little turkey...give him some time. Is he going #1? If so, wait until tomorrow. The good signs are...he is home, he is eating and he wags his little tail! I sure hope he recovers quickly! |
When my puppies are feeling poorly, I just freak. I do all sorts of things to make it better. The good news is, it usually does get better - mainly because you are watching to make sure. One of my babies today had one eye glued shut. I freaked out. I had my hubby hold him until I could get a warm washcloth. I couldn't remember the last time I saw it open. I was afraid one of the babies punctured his eye. Within a few minutes (that seemed like an hour) his little eye was open, and he seemed fine. When it was shut, I thought he might be dying. It was horrible. Now I just keep watching him, when he got up while ago, his eye was shut again, I gently washed it off. I will definitely be keeping an eye on his eye! |
yes, he has gone #1 - he is just so fidgety - maybe I am just overreacting....I just can't help worrying about the little guy |
Laura ...you sound just like me...I'm better but when we first got Chanel I ran to the vet for everything.... On Joey - did the vet give you anything to help him go to the bathroom ? The medication can be causing him to have an upset tummy and be constipated...Sometimes your vet can give you something to help him along - I really hope your baby feels better - he's been thru alot and I know he had a whole bunch of people worried....I would try to talk to your vet even though it's Saturday tommorrow - sometimes they had hours or someone on call and maybe they can tell you what to do or give him something. Good luck with your baby - I really hope he starts feeling back to his old self soon. |
I understand why you are worrying. If I were you, I would just wait until morning and call the vet. Tell him what you told us here at YT and see what he says. If he recommends it, then take him there so the vet can check him out. I agree with everyone who posted here, he is probably fidgety because he has to poop. |
Ask your vet if a little canned pumpkin can be given to him. Constipation or pain can make an active puppy into a fidgety puppy that worries his mommie...who will be caring for that baby while you are away? I noticed you are going with BF's family so I am assuming that is not an option. Will one of your family be able to watch him? And, sign a notarized authorization to allow the caregiver to authorize any care except euthanization...and spell out who will be financially responsible... This might sound like overkill, but I do it every time I leave my babies. Also, every time I keep someone else's baby..... |
Whispersmom - you are too clever. I would have never thought of that, but it is a great idea. Villette - I have always been like that about everything. It's horrible, I panic, but put up a very calm front. So much, in fact, when my 14 year old cut his foot open last year, he said 'I knew it was bad because you were so quiet.' Johnsae - I would also recommend Nutrical if you have some - it has the sweet like Karo, and also oil that might help constipation. |
Laura, you are right about NutriCal, It always gives mine the trots...I had forgotten about that..thanx for the reminder. |

Joey loves nutrical!!! I heard that vets refer to it as "puppy crack" since it cranks them up so much - he did have some today, but much earlier. My mom is here from Pennsylvania and will be watching Joey while we are out of town - I trust her immensely - she is a huge animal lover, and after all...she suggested coming here to help me through the guilt of leaving him....she is the best and will take great care of Joey. We have a follow-up appointment with the emergency vet team on Sunday at 2pm, so hopefully Joey will be ok until then. |
I am so glad to hear that Joey is home and doing so much better. Maybe one of the medications he is on is causing the fidgetiness (is that a word?) You said he is not sleeping either so I just wonder if there might be a medication keeping him "wired" so to speak. Might want to ask the vet. |
