Ear Wrapping Help Needed I have a 5 month old little Yorkie girl who I can't get her ears to stand up. Her brothers are up great. I wrap her ears for 3 days at a time and have done that at least 5 times. They will stay up for a day and then go down. I need to get them up before she is 6 months old. Does anyone have any advice on getting ears to stand that are difficult? Thanks, Lisa |
There are many sites that explain in detail about wrapping ears and give lots of advice regarding this. I googled "wrapping Yorkie ears" and got a lot. Here are a few: http://members.cox.net/jrogan/ears.html http://glassyorkies.homestead.com/care.html (partway down page) and this: Try taping his ears up. Here's how: First shave the hair off the top one third to one half of the ears. Then fold the ear toward the front like you were closing it up vertically. Now the ear should be sticking up in a point. Wrap a piece of gauze around the ear and then secure it by wrapping scotch tape or bandage tape around the gauze. Make sure it is tight enough that it will stay on for a while but not so tight that it cuts off the circulation in the ear. If the pup gets it off in the first 5 minutes, it's too loose, try again a little tighter this time. His ears should be taped for 3 days. After that take them down and leave them alone till they start drooping again. Then tape them but this time leave them up for 24 hours, then take them down til they droop again. Keep doing this until they stay up permanently. Some ears only need 3 days, others need 3 weeks. It depends on the size and strength of his ears. Hope this helps I am sure you can find more if this isn't enough. All the best to you and your baby! |
why the rush to have them up by 6 months? Have you shaved her ears? Is she still teething? Sammiz mom ust posted up some great info. I would look into it a bit further. Best of luck! |
Ear Wrapping - Thanks! I have been forgetting to shave her ears since the first time. I did that and we will try again. Also I didn't realize that I should leave them taped for only 24 hours after the first time and wrap them immediately if they fall. I had read that it is iffy on getting them to stand if they are over 6 months. I am new to this. One of her momma's ears don't stand. The breeder I purchased her from said one of her littermates kept getting the tape off of her. Anyway, I think they are cuter when their ears stand so I would like hers to stand if possible. Thanks for the advice! Lisa & Selena (my little girl with droopy ears) |
