Sawyer scared me to death today!! Sawyer has been itching a lot lately, and I told Cliff last night that I was going to take him to the vet. Well this morning, he went out and did his duty just fine. I was fixing breakfast, and I heard him trying to vomit. He just kept straining and straining. He finally vomited, and there was so much yellow foam I couldn't believe it all came from him. He then just trembled and laid down. I called the vet to tell them I was on my way, and off we went. I even brought the mess with me incase they needed to see if he had eaten anything. The vet said it was all bile, no food present at all. She said from now on never send him to bed on an empty stomach. He has to eat a small piece of bread before bed everynight, and she put him on childrens Zantac. I am telling you all this because she told me that little dogs, especially picky eaters like sawyer, need to have something in their stomach at night to offset the acid that builds while they sleep. I wouldn't want anyone to see their baby struggle like sawyer did, it was terrible. So, if your baby is a light eater in the evening, please give them a little piece of bread, or cracker to absorb all that acid.:interesti :interesti |
Thanks for the info. That makes sense. |
That's interesting, thank you. Kalina was vomiting bile when we were in Florida and I didn't know what was wrong with her. I was trying to find an emergency vet and then she perked up after I gave her a little bit of chicken and rice. I know that her eating was off because of the plane flight, etc., so maybe that's why. Normally I feed her at about 7PM and she has a treat before bed. I'll keep on doing that. Thanks for the info. :) |
Thanks for the tip. I always give Autumn a biscuit before bed! I hope Sawyer is feeling better! |
OMG!!! Thanks so much for the info... Meka has been a lil picky eating in the evenings lately and I've been a lil worried about it. Aside from changing her brand of food soon, I havent been sure about what I could do to help her out and make sure her tummy has something in it - Thanks :) |
I feed mine the last feeding at 9pm otherwise Cali will throw up bile. Good tip |
That happened to Rex before and the ER vet didn't say that's what it was... but I make it a point to make sure that if he didn't eat good that night (I free feed) that he gets a treat before bed. Thanks for the info! |
poor little baby.... glad it turned out ok in the end... had to be a big scare...... <~~~~~ sending sawyer kisses....and licks from bugsi |
Thanks for the post. I never would have thought of that. |
Thanks for the info. That's why I like YT so much - everyone has such good information and shares. |
Poor sawyer:( but hopefully he is feeling better...and thanks for the info:thumbup: |
I am glad I helped a few of you. Sawyer is much better this evening, and he is asleep right here by my chair; and his tummy has a nice piece of bread with a touch of peanut butter to make it more tempting in it. :) |
This happens with Avery-it scared me at first, because i didnt know why she threw up. She usually is pretty good about eating(we free feed) and she eats small amounts throughout the day, but mostly chows down later in the evening. :p But sometimes, for whatever reason, if she doesnt eat at night, then she will throw up bile the next day. So i make sure she eats at night or (early in the morning if not) Also, if she throws up bile.. i will give her cheerios with a little bit of nutri-cal on it.. and she will start to eat her food not too long after that.:) |
Poor Sawyer, yes its very common when they have an empty stomach. I always try to make sure my little ones go to bed with something in their tummies. |
A couple of months back Maggie scared us too, she would wake up in the morning and started to vomit. Now both Winston and Maggie get 20-25 Cheerios right before bedtime. |
