Afraid of Fireworks??? I am going to be going to the park for the fireworks display on the fourth in our town and i wanted to take Cosmo. Is that a good idea or not. How many of your yorkies are scared of fireworks. Are you taking your yorkies to see the fireworks. Thanks |
Don't know about Nala yet but my other two dogs are scared to death of fireworks and the only fireworks they were around were the "Poppers" and bottle rockets nothing too loud. Now if you even pop a piece of gum they take off and hide under a bed for a little while. |
brownie dont care at all kayko we dont know yet really he was a baby during fireworks i guess well see hes not a big baby with sounds tho so i dont think ill have a prob |
I am not sure if my girls are...but we will probably take them to see some fireworks and see how they response...I imagine that Magic will just bark at them and try to attack them...she is so funny!! |
We had fireworks here last night (for some reason??) Olivia heard them and got nervous. She didn't bark or panic, but she stayed very close to me. I would not bring a yorkie to fireworks. They hurt my ears so I would assume they would hurt a yorkie's as well. My cousin brought her mastiff to fireworks last 4th of July and learned the hard way that Abe didn't like fireworks- he dragged her husband across the field towards home!! |
Sophie reacts very badly to fireworks, and I don't mean taking her to actual fireworks displays. This is indoors during formal fireworks displays in NY Harbor about a mile from home (never mind about street fireworks!). She starts barking almost uncontrollably and running all around the kitchen, and it's very difficult to calm her down. We've tried both homeopathic and a prescription sedative for her for thunderstorms, and after using the remedies a few times, they seem to no longer work. We wish that she would be one of those dogs that runs and hides under the bed because it's upsetting to see her so terrified and be unable to do much about it. So we're really dreading the July 4th weekend. It's hard to predict how your little one might react if Cosmo has never heard fireworks before. |
I haven't seen a dog yet that actually enjoyed them. :D Little one's are usually scared of them. That's just my opinion. I've seen big one's that are, too. |
I have had dogs that hate them and dogs that don't seem to mind them. A good way to figure it out is how they react to thunder storms. I would imagine none of them actually like it, though-- they have much, much more sensitive ears than we do! |
I don't want to bust your bubble - but my girls SHAKE at the fireworks they hear in the neighborhood - and they're in their house ! I'd never take them out to see them - I'd be afraid to traumatize them and I'd hate to make them more scared of loud noises - What I do on Holidays.... is PLAY music to cover up the loud fireworks and make a game of the REALLY big boomers - I clap my hands and act like it's exciting to hear - all the while my girls are cringing and shaking cause they HATE fireworks - but after a few hours - they relax and I don't have to act like an idiot - but my advise is - I wouldn't do it if I were you - If you think your baby can handle it - GREAT and maybe you will have fun :) IT sure would be a good way to get them used to them.... but for me personally - I don't think mine would have fun at all |
Lucy doesn't care about fireworks, but she is kept in the house when they are on. She thinks the sky is falling in when she sees a hot air balloon so I hate to think how she would react if she saw the fireworks. On the other hand, I know some dogs that are deathly afraid of fireworks and go crazy on bonfire night. Im sorry I know Im not helpful at all! |

I used to have a chihuahua that was both scared of thunderstorms and fireworks. The little chihuahua that followed her was not scared at all of thunderstorms, but was terrified of firecrackers. |
We have a member here who's baby is so devestated by them she hides all night behind a chair and will not come out - Chanel will hide behind the couch but I can coax her out - Cheri shivers in my lap - lol...no ...mine don't like fireworks and I REALLY try to divert them - thunderstorms also....I'm dreading the 4th for them |
