Strange Question -- A/C Ok, here is a strange question. As the temp reaches near 100 degrees today in Chicago....I am wondering if I can make it too cold in the house for Tini. Since I live in an older building (1920's) I have window unit air conditioners and it is hard to really get a constant temp. It is either freezing or it starts to get too warm if I shut the units off. I usually put on a sweatshirt and keep it cold. The temp is about 72 degrees in my house now. Do you think that is too cool for Tini? Should I put a sweater on her too? I know this sounds crazy, but I don't want her to get sick or be cold. Thanks for your suggestions! |
I'm really glad you asked this! It is supposed to be very hot and muggy here in NY and I am always wondering what is a comfortable temp. for my babies! I am always concerned that the a/c is too high and that they will be sick from going in and out from hot to cold. |
We're in Houston and always have the AC on - I keep mine at about 78 and if I feel a cold nose - I put a t-shirt on them but 78 isn't that cold....I always feel noses - you can usually tell and if your baby shivers - yes ! |
I wish I knew the answer to this question..my landlord controls the central air and my house always feels like a freezer..so I keep Maximus is pajamas when I am at work and in his fleece bed he has a huge blanket that he can wrap up in if he gets cold..when we are home together we snuggle under Mommy's blanket which has a permanent place on the couch..lol..my bf doesn't think it is too cold..lol |
Im not a Yorkie speacialist you all know that, but I have been reading a lot about them. If what I read is correct Yorkies dont have fur they have hair kind of like human hair. So IMO I think if you are cold your dog would be cold as well. If your hot I would belive your dog would be hot. If any of you have kids (humans lol) the doctor told me the same thing if Im cold most likely the baby is cold if Im hot the baby most likely is hot. This is just my own opinion. |
Yup! Yorkies have no "undercoat" ... they are single coat dogs and our Toto is very cold natured. We keep ours about 70 degrees and if Toto gets chilly she looks for a warm lap!! :) We keep things for her in every room ... little bed, blankies, etc. so if she gets in our lap and appears to still be cold, we just throw a little cover on her!! I believe they will let you know if they are uncomfortable ... Toto does! ;) |

As most people know, Texas is hotter than hell. We keep out AC temp set between 72 and 74. Hubby and I prefer that temp, while Maggie sometimes does and other times doesn't. So, every room she has a pallet with some blankies. She also wears little t shirts. They are just heavy enough for her to stay warm. However her favorite warm place is right on my lap, which is just dandy with me. I do know when she goes outside to potty, she can't stand the heat. She will search out a shade spot for her bathroom business and they hook it back to the house. You know, come to think of it---I think she only acts like she is cold in the house, so I will pick her up on my lap. Oh, that little sneak. |
sweaters a must Well.. I keep my house pretty cool during the day also- But at night...its just as cool because for some reason...I get hot~ lol Couldn't possibly be my age could it? LOL :p Anyway...I've been placing a sweatshirt or sweater on my puppy for the night and by the time I'm up in the morning...she is out of it- I keep blankets in her bed and fuzzy toys to snuggle to. ;) But your right..they can get chilled. |
