Please Help!!! Hello YorkieTalk Family, I think that my little Kaylah broke her leg, but I'm not quite sure. She is limping but she isn't whimpering or barking. She knocked over a small shelf and right before it fell, it caught the back of her leg. Does anyone know the symptoms for a broken leg? Would she be making any type of noise if it as broken? What should I do? Kaylah's Mommy :( |
The only way to tell if it's broken is to have it xrayed. Hopefully it's just sore and she will be better in the morning. If not, I'd take her to your vet. |

I see that you are logged off. I hope that little Kaylah is better, or if not, that you have her seen asap. Best Wishes. |
It's a good sign that she's walking on it. If she wasn't bearing weight on it at all then I would get her to an emergency vet ASAP. See how she's doing in the morning |
Thank you all for youcomments. She is alking on it, she's just limping on it and dragging it at times. I'm making her lie down until the morning so I can see if it is any better. She is still trying to play, so I am taking that as a good sign. |

We must have been posting at the same time. I'd watch her with the dragging it. Not a good sign. If it's broken, it needs to be immobilized so as not to cause further damage. I sure hope it's ok. |
I would take her to the vet asap. I have a toy schnauzer that is just about the same size as a yorkie. She broke her leg when she was about 8wks. old. She cried and cried at first and then began to try to put weight on it. So, I would be on the safe side and take her. We also have a new yorkie and her name is Kayla. Hope that baby is okay and her leg is not broke. |
Is she letting you touch her leg? Animals don't show pain like humans do, so just for peace of mind I would take her to the vet. |
Yeah, just because she is walking on it doesn't mean it's not broken. My poor son broke his leg years ago. We took him right to the ER and they took xrays and told us it wasn't broken. The poor kid limped for five days until we got a call from the hospital. They were about to file the xrays away and reread them and discovered his leg was broken after all! |
I'd check with the vet just to be sure. It could be a bad sprain. |
Thank you all for the advice. Kaylah appears to be doing just fine. She is not limping anymore and is running around playing with her toys. I am still going to take her in to the vet this afternoon to be on the safe side. Thanks again for the advice. |
Only a vet would be able to answer this question. Please don't delay going to the vet as she could be doing a lot of nerve damage to her leg. |
