How to gain weight? My baby got spayed yesterday. She has since lost 9 ounces (according to vet records today compared to when she was there 3 weeks ago). Any suggestions on how I can get her to pork up? She seems scrawny. |
Ellie had been a scrawny little thing. We told the vet that we feed her and she won't gain. This happened while Ellie was on the exam table trying to wiggle her way off. The vet said she wants Ellie's metabolism and feed her if she is hungry.:) I don't go by recommendations on dog food bags anymore. All dogs are different. Ellie is up to 6 pounds now and I am a lot happier with her weight. This was accomplished through homecooking and Canidae. What are you feeding? |

She is 4 and has been fed Purina ProPlan Chicken and Rice her whole life. This is what I have been giving her the past month that I have had her. I occasionally give her some turkey..she goes nuts over it. I do not want to switch her food if she is not going to like it. Suggestions?? |
Did you give Nutrical to her as a puppy? Every pet that I have known loves the stuff, too much can make them gain weight though but I think that is what you want. |

PetCo and PetSmart carry it, so do most pet stores. Its usually in the supplement/medicine isle. |

Nutrical is not for weight gain and its not really a vitamin supplement either, tho that's what its sold as. its basically a tube of sugar that's used for young and small puppies that might become hypoglycemic. You said your yorkie is 4 years old right? she does not need this and its not they key to put some weight on her. The food that you have her on isn't the best but if that's what you want to keep her on then give her a little more then you usually do. Does she always eat all her food or does she leave some in the bowl? How much do you give her daily? |
Nutrical is also used to help stimulate appetite. So it won't hurt to give it to her. If she isn't eating loike she should be Nutrical will also help with that. Hope this helps. I would say cook her some white rice, chicken, carrots, potatoes. Whenever my mom feeds my babies that they put on weight, they get fat little bellies:p |

I agree nutrical is not the answer here, no way. It is a tube of sugar, it would be like feeding your kids endless bags of candy to get them to put weight on. |
I disagree.. If she is loosing weight then a little nutrical will not hurt. I am not saying she should feed her tubes and tubes of it. SOmeone else mentioned feeding some chicken and rice... Along with that a little nutrical can't hurt. Diesel is full gown and when he isn't eating like he should be I give him a little Nutrical. Everyone will feel different about it I guess. |
I have a scrawny girl too (Luna) and I have been trying to fatten her up:laugh: She gets some cottage cheese, her homecooked dinner, and all the kibble (Merrick) she wants. I agree that Nutrical is NOT the answer, though if you want to give her a tiny lick of it, it should stimulate her appetite enough to get her to eat more. Too much of the stuff can cause diabetes:eek: |
