Yorkshire and/or Silky Terriers? HELLO EVERYBODY! I have been wanting a small dog for about 5 years now doing a lot of research on different breeds, I would love to have a Yorkie in my life. I am noticing that some of the terriers have a longer snout and look like Silkies and the ones with a short snout are the Yorkshires? I like the "smooshy" faces. Does anyone else see a difference or is it just me? Should I make sure the puppy is an Akc Yorkshire Terrier puppy so I know, she will not be mixed with a Silky? Also any tips on choosing a puppy from the litter? Thank You |

Yes, since you went through 5 years of research, I say, go the extra mile and get a Registered Yorkshire Terrier. You never know. Breeders have to show the papers, no matter how reputable they seem. GOOD LUCK! |
Ha Ha thanks! :) AWWW! Your doggie is sooooo cute! I love his coloring! Makes me want my puppy even more! LOL |
Wow! You all are sooo Friendly on here! I LOVE IT!!!!Thank you for all the advice. I know I've been taking my time on picking out the "perfect" dog but I just want it to be special! Thanks again! |

There is a BIG difference between the two breeds. Not just in temperment, but also in coat and structure. I posted up on another thread not all that long ago if you search for it regarding this very thing. I'm going to bed now...waaaaaay past due on that. More tomorrow- *er* today? ha ha |

Best wishes in finding your perfect baby, and do get your AKC papers. |
AKC papers while they should verify a dogs pureness towards it's lineage, that's unfortunantely not always the case. Those documents can be fudged. Just be careful who you shop from. I would highly recommend either you get breeder suggestions from someone here on YT OR go to the AKC's website and get breeder referrals there. A good rule of thumb for me is to no purchase from a breeder that breeds BOTH Silky's and Yorkies within the same kennel UNLESS they show those dogs actively. Because accidental matings can/have happened and those that are more unethical have little issue w/ registering the litter to have parents of the same breed to cover it up. Why even play around w/ that when you know clearly what you're shopping for? Never knew shopping for a puppy would be so difficult? :) Best of luck to you and yours and when you do find what you're looking for, please be sure to come back and let us know.....pics are always great too! :D |
