I've got a barker My six month old Yorkie, Rowdy, has developed a barking habit. He just started two days ago. It's always right before bedtime and we have no idea why he's barking. I've taken him for walks, given him kongs filled with peanut butter, tried holding him and scolding him but nothing works. I hope this is just a phase. He has two older sisters here, but he doesn't seem to be barking at them. Help!! |
Super glue??? Just kidding. I have barkers too, and I use the penny can to quiet them down. One or two shakes of that noisy can and all is quite. If that doesn't work try the squirt bottle. |
Sounds like he's wanting your attention. Try putting pennies in a soda can/beer can. Shake it in front of him when he barks unnessarily. It might frighten him but that's what you want. Leverge!:D It's the only thing that has helped me when Buddy went through that period. I still use it when I leave in the am. I show him the can and threaten to shake it before I leave. Because he wines and howls when I do. It works everytime, for us. |
Sorry I cant help, I have 4 barkers here:rolleyes: nothing stops them, I have tryed everything, when they hear the least nosie they are off and barking, sometimes thats not always bad, but other times like when you want to nap, it can be a bit bothersome, good luck to you:) |
I didn't know about the pennies in a can method. I love YT!! I get tons of great advice and I wasn't even the original poster! ;) |
I'm off in search of pennies and a can right now. I remember that I used that with my Westie and it worked. Can't believe I forgot that soon. I had thought about a squirt bottle but was waiting to get everybody's advice. Thanks again and wish me luck. ;) |
Pennies in a can has worked well, for me too. Wishing you luck.:) |
........seems like 6 months for the males is the time they start getting a little crazier than usual....could it be he's coming of age?.....are you getting him neutered?....maybe one of the YT breeders could answer this question.............. |
the pennies in a soda can with the lid taped worked for us to, to stop the barking. try it, what is the worst that can happen? different things will work for different dogs. i would just give it a good strong shake and say "no bark" very sternly (not yelling) but more like a boss/authority figure. Good luck!! |

Thanks so much for the tip. I will continue on w/it and see how I do! |
When Toby tried to be barker I would hold his mouth close and say NO! That would usually quiet him down...hope it helps. |
