she doesn't know pee is coming out of her?
 

My 2 year old female started this. She is house-trained but the last couple of days has been right by me and peed in the house. And I don't think she realizes that pee is coming out of her. Seriously. And it is a huge amount!


But can a dog really not feel that she is peeing? I saw it happen and I really don't think that she knew. She is cuddly as always not acting out. Is this a health thing? Her only new behavior is that at night she has been sitting up awake more.

Welcome to YorkieTalk.:) It sounds like a urinary tract infection and if that's the case she needs antibiotics.

I'd take her to the vet to get checked out. WELCOME TO YT.

Take her to the vets, It could be a bladder infection or a urinary tract infection . she will need meds before it gets to bad.

Hi and Welcome to yt, it most deff sounds like a bladder infection, karleigh had one and she peeded constant, she could not hold it, the vet will give you a antibiotic and it will be gone in no time, good luck to you:) please dont wait, it also can be painful:(

I'm leaning more toward Urinary Incontinence than an infection. Is she just standing there and peeing or does she take time to squat? Is she spayed? Some spayed females develop urinary incontinence. That's definitely not normal

thanks. i called yesterday and got her in right away. they took blood and urine and stool samples and will call me with the results. The vet also talked about checking for a liver shunt?!? Not sure how they do that.

in answer to the last question-She was spayed. In fact, she house-trained really fast when we brought her home (just a couple weeks and she could tell us ever time she had to go!) But after being spayed at 6 months, she was set back for a bit and started excited peeing when we had company or she could hear things outside. We put her in a puppy diaper to catch the dribbles when that happened for a couple months and then that stopped happening.

She has been fine since then. She still scratches at the door every time she wants to go out. And she seems to be able to hold it for really long (like 9 hours sometimes!)

And when she went in the house, I never saw her squat. It looked maybe like she lost her balance but then caught herself? But she didn't even react. If she EVER went in the house, she felt guilty even though we put out puppy pads if we were to be gone. Or when we were training our second puppy, we always knew if he'd had an accident because she would come over to us and cower. But it was like she didn't even know.

:) Hi, and welcome to YT! I agree with everyone else. Take her to the vet for antibiotics...if it's a UTI, it will only get worse without them. Besides that, it hurts!!!

It is a really good idea to test for liver shunt. You must have a good vet.:) Sometimes UTIs in Yorkies indicate a problem (but not always so don't worry). The vet will do a bile acid test. You fast your dog for 12 hours (overnight) and the vet takes blood. She will be fed a meal and blood will be taken two hours later. It is a simple test. The normal results are premeal: 10 or below and postmeal: 15-20 or below. The numbers can be lower but you don't want them much higher.
