Puppy tears I am so glad to find this site! I have wanted a Yorkshire Terrier since I was eight, and after years (honestly) of planning and searching and preparing I've just adopted my first. I am even happier than I imagined. Each day is just a delight with our new baby, Charlie. She is a 10 wk. old, we've had her 10 days now. She is named after my eldest son, Charles - he's off to college so I have replaced him. Her eyes are always wet - always. Is this normal? Everything is else is perfect. Thanks for your input! |
Sorry I can't help you with the tears. Welcome to YT and good luck with your new furbabie. I am sure someone soon will come to your rescue. |
Did you get your little Charlie from a breeder? My co-worker told me that teary-eyed dogs are mostly found in pet stores/puppy mills because of their hygiene/clogged tear ducts. :( One of the most common yeast infections (in the eyes) is Ptyrosporin or Red Yeast which causes a deep reddish-brown stain. |
She might also have allergies at this time. Check with your doctor, he will be able to advise you better. Goood luck with the puppy |
Do you mean the hair around her eyes is always wet? If so that's normal. You need to wash it with a tearless baby shampoo and a wash cloth. Congratulations on your new baby. |
Yes, the hair under her eyes is always wet. Is it normal? |
I did not get her from a puppy mill, but from a breeder who thinks I am too worried about everything I read on the internet. She tells me in a mothering tone that her dogs are healthy and robust, and I shouldn't be so anxious. |

Well, it sounds like there are ways to "cure" this. One of the things I read is that you should first eliminate whatever it is that might be causing the tears (ie. health, irritation, environment, water and diet issues). Hopefully she will be fine if you simply wipe her down. |
