Help me Quick! Buying a Yorkie My sister wants to buy a yorkie puppy from a site that sells many types of breeds. I have explained to her that she needs to buy from a reputable breeder and do her research. Be very careful because of all the scams. Do not buy from a puppy store or have one shipped to her from across the country based on a picture or promises. She has found one she want to buy today!!! I told her to go on line and read these responses from the people who know best. Please tell her because she does not believe me. Help me before she makes a big mistake. |
Well all you can do it tell her what you know and tell her to go online. Sounds like she already made up her mind.. Tell her she may end up with a Yorkie with a BUTT LOAD of vet bills ask if she can afford that? Show her the video in my siggy line. :( |
I hope your sister will read some other post that tell of heart break and pain caused by sites like that . as a breeder i can tell you i personaly cant see how people who have multi litters at a time give them the proper development and social skills have her ask the breeder about testing for liver shunts LP. there are some wonderful puppies for sale and adoption on this site !! what a great sister you are for helping her find her way:D |
Tell her not to buy a puppy without a health guarantee if she is set on that one puppy. Hopefully she will come to her senses and buy from a reputable breeder where she can see where this puppy has been raised and the parents too. |
I agree - all you can do is tell her that what she is wanting to do is NOT the best way to buy a puppy. And I would NEVER EVER buy online without seeing the puppy first (and seeing what it's living conditions are) - or at least KNOWING who your buying from. But I certainly would not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES buy from a web site that is selling many different breeds of dogs - that just SCREAMS out PUPPY MILL. Does your sister know about all the YEARS of heartache that can come with these Puppy Mill dogs? All the health problems which can lead to super high and very costly vet bills?? Not to mention sadness for HER if anything happens to the dog (it gets very sick, or even possibly dies). I don't know which web site she is wanting to buy from - but when you mentioned that they sell many different types of dogs - that was a HUGE red flag for me. All you can do is warn her - but it is going to be her choice in the end. I just hope you don't end up having to tell her, "I told you so" :( |
Please do not buy from the internet unless you are absolutely sure that it is a reputable breeder. There should be atleast a one year health guarantee against congenital defects. |
I would never buy a puppy unless I had seen the living conditions, met the breeder and met at least the puppies mother. Anyone can set up a flashy website and put the puppy in a cute setting for a picture, anyone. |
They're are so many wonderful babies here that would love a forever home. Don't get scammed by the internet. Atleast if you bought one here you would know what you were getting. |
Thank you all so much for the wonderful advice. Unfortunately, we fall so in love with Yorkies and just want one no matter what, but in the end it can be a disaster. I just want her to really research and visit where the puppies are living and meet the persons/people who are breeding and raising them. I told her not to fall for the whole "teacup" word and there are go guarantees on the size and be leary of anyone who can 100% guarantee the size. My Roxie is bigger then her mom and dad, so you never know. It will prevent future heartache and possible loads of money. Thanks again Yorkietalk! :yorkietal |
Maybe you could look here at yt for her;) wouldnt that be great to get a babie from here to love:) |
Tell her to check here for a new baby:) There are so many wonderful breeders here! Their prices are much more reasonable, plus they stand behind their pups:thumbup: |
Believe me, I've made that mistake. You should have her join YT and take her time choosing a yorkie. It's like a adopting a baby, you really need to take your time, talk to the person you're dealing with and make sure the match is going to be a good one. She should also keep in mind a lot of dishonest breeders out there use pictures of puppies they don't really have so if she falls in love with a picture, that might not be the dog she's buying. |
